As Uncle Jesse would say, “Have Mercy!”

 Just look at this pizza.

It’s got so many yummy flavors packed onto one pizza crust.

We’re talking a barbecue sauce base, both ground beef and bacon, a blend of Southwestern veggies including a little spicy jalapeno action.

And it’s all topped with a fiesta blend of cheeses.

So much yes!

It’s the perfect homemade pizza for a movie night at home and will feed the hungriest of families.

One of these roadhouse pizzas feeds all 4 of my boys, my husband, and myself, and satisfies those hardy appetites.

Ingredients

To make this you’ll need:

  • Pizza dough– You can use our easy homemade pizza dough recipe or you can use refrigerated pizza dough.
  • Olive oil
  • Barbecue sauce– Your favorite kind to taste
  • Ground beef– Use lean ground beef so it’s not too greasy. Cook it until it’s browned and drain away the excess grease.
  • Bacon– Cooked and crumbled
  • Veggies– Seeded chopped jalapenos, a chopped Roma tomato, red onion slices, diced bell peppers
  • Cheese– Mexican or Fiesta blend cheese

How to Make

Making roundhouse pizza is very much like making other kinds of pizza.

To do it, prepare the pizza dough according to the recipe you are using or the instructions of the package.

Then roll the dough out onto a pizza pan you’ve greased with non-stick cooking spray.

Prick the surface of the dough a few times around the pizza with a fork.

Drizzle with olive oil and bake the crust at 450 degrees for about 10 minutes.

Then spread out your desired amount of barbecue sauce evenly over the crust leaving a 1/2″ rim of crust around the edge.

Sprinkle half the cheese out evenly over top of the layer of barbecue sauce.

Top with the ground beef, bacon, jalapeno, tomato, onion, and peppers.

Then sprinkle the toppings with the rest of the cheese.

Bake at 450 degrees for 15-17 minutes, or until the pizza crust is golden brown and the cheese is bubbly.

Let the pizza rest for a minute or two, then slice and serve.

Enjoy!

Storing Leftovers

The toppings on roadhouse pizza are very heavy and, especially if you use a lot of barbecue sauce, tend to sink into the crust and make it soggy.

Because of this, I wouldn’t keep the pizza for more than a day or so in an airtight container or wrapped tightly in foil in the fridge.

Reheat leftovers in a hot oven until the cheese melts and the pizza is hot.

Tips and Tricks

  • Prep all the toppings before you assemble the pizza including cooking the bacon and beef and chopping the veggies. Then assembly will be fast and easy!
  • You could load this up even more with a dollop of sour cream and some fresh green onions or cilantro after this comes out of the oven.
  • Leftover pulled pork would be a delicious substitution for the ground beef. You could also use shredded chicken if yo prefer.

  1. Road house pizza sounds like the way to go! I have never had a pizza with a bbq sauce base! I have a friend who cooks them professionally, I might ask him if he can make one for me as they have a proper pizza oven! Delicious and loaded with goodness, I would definitely sneak on a few jalapenos! Happy Fiesta Friday! 🙂
