Grilled Peaches with Vanilla Ice Cream
Grilled peaches with vanilla ice cream are a delicious sweet summer time treat. Just a few ingredients and the easiest prep ever and you’ll be enjoying caramelized peaches that taste almost exactly like pie.
With peach season in full swing, there’s no way to resist picking tons of the sweet, juicy fruit.
When they are at their best and in season, a fresh peach is *chef’s kiss* perfection.
And grilling them and serving them with a scoop of creamy vanilla ice cream?
Even better.
It’s like a twist on the classic peaches and cream combination.
Does grilling peaches make them sweeter?
Yes! Grilling peaches caramelizes the natural sugars in them and makes them super sweet and delicious.
My version uses a bit of brown sugar too so there’s a little bit of extra sweetness going on from that.
Why are grilled peaches so good?
Grilled peaches are the best simply because of the caramelization I mentioned above.
And if you are trying to watch your added sugar, you can skip the brown sugar and still enjoy a super sweet treat.
Ingredients
To make this easy summer dessert you’ll need:
- Peaches– Make sure they are ripe. Cut them in half and remove the pit.
- Canola oil– To make sure they don’t stick to the grill. You could also use a nonstick spray designed for grilling.
- Sugar– Brown sugar. This is optional but really does add an extra little bit of caramel flavor.
- Ice cream– Your favorite brand of vanilla.
How to Make
Part of the beauty of this dessert is just how easy it is to make.
To do it just heat the grill to medium high heat.
Then, brush the peach halves with oil and sprinkle each half with a pinch of brown sugar.
Once they are prepped, place them on the grill for a few moments and then rotate 90 degrees and continue to cook for about 3-4 minutes.
When the peaches are ready, they should have pretty grill marks and will feel softer.
Serve them warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream in each half.
Should you peel peaches before grilling them?
Nope!
You want to leave the skin on to give the peaches a little bit more structure.
Can I freeze grilled peaches?
Yes! Surprisingly they freeze very well.
To freeze them, let them cool completely and then place them in a freezer safe bag.
They will keep for 3 months or so.
Storing Leftovers
Didn’t use up all of your grilled peaches and don’t want to freeze them?
No problem.
Just store them in an airtight container in the fridge for up to a week.
Can I use under -ripe peaches?
You can because grilling brings out the sugar.
However, if they are too under-ripe, the pit will be very difficult to remove.
Tips and Tricks
- Want to add even more flavor? Add a sprinkle of cinnamon.
- The brown sugar is optional so if you are watching your sugar or just trying to eat a little healthier you can skip it and the peaches will still taste great.
- For a lighter dessert, you could substitute vanilla or even plain yogurt for the ice cream.
