The warmer weather for me means casual and easy.
Just like the song says, “Summertime and the livin’s easy.”
That’s pretty much the motto I try to follow for all things.
I certainly follow that motto this time of year for all things food.
Now that it’s finally beautiful outside, I don’t want to spend a bunch of time making really complicated things.
Instead, I keep easy to make recipes that don’t require a lot of prep time in my back pocket like this dill pickle dip recipe.
It’s easy, full of pantry staples, and a snap to throw together for a picnic or barbecue.
Ingredients
To make this you’ll need:
- Cream cheese– Let it soften on the counter to room temperature so it’s easier to mix. You can sub neufchatel cheese, also softened, if trying to shave off some calories.
- Sour cream– Go for full fat sour cream for best flavor.
- Dill– Finely chopped fresh dill. You could use dried dill, but keep in mind dried herbs tend to have a stronger flavor than fresh- so you’ll want to use less. The flavor will become more pronounced as the dip rests.
- Dried spices and seasoning– Garlic powder, onion powder, kosher salt, and crushed black pepper round out the mixture for this dip.
- Dill pickles– Chopped- I recommend using a crisp, sturdy dill pickle. Typically the refrigerated kind have the best flavor without a ‘slimy’ texture.
How to Make
This is definitely a 5 minute dill pickle dip recipe!
Yes, it’s that fast to put together.
Just mix the cream cheese and sour cream together until combined in a large bowl.
Then, mix in all other ingredients.
That’s it! Done!
You can cover the dish for 2 hours or up to overnight.
Then serve and enjoy!
Storing Leftovers
Store leftover dill pickle dip for up to 4 days in an airtight container in the fridge.
Can I Make Creamy Dill Pickle Dip Ahead Of Time?
Yes!
If you plan to make this dip ahead of time, reserve a bit of pickle juice from the dill pickles.
Stir in a little bit of the pickle juice to keep the pickle dip from setting up and solidifying too much in the fridge.
If you are making this right before serving, don’t worry about that.
The dip will be nice and soft, perfect for dunking a chip into.
Dipping Options & Serving Suggestions
Pretty much everything tastes good dunked in this creamy pickle dip!
Favorite dipping options include:
- baby carrots
- pretzels or pretzel crackers
- cucumbers slices
- celery sticks
- crackers
- potato chips
- baguette slices
- tortilla chips
It’s also so yummy spread on sandwiches and wraps in place of mayo.
What does dill pickle dip taste like?
This easy dip is so delicious.
The pickles have a briny saltiness that contrast the refreshing cream cheese and tangy sour cream nicely.
And the seasonings give it just a hint of tang while the dill gives it a nice fresh flavor, somewhat reminiscent of ranch.
Tips and Tricks
- Use a hand mixer to easily mix the cream cheese and sour cream together.
- You can use your favorite pickles, obviously. However, I really suggest the Claussen brand. They’re kept cold so they’re always crisp, and never slimy.
- The recipe notes chilling the dip overnight. The dip needs to chill, covered, for at least 2 hours but will hold up if made ahead and stored overnight.
- It’s totally ok to sub the low fat cream cheese in this dip.
