We entertain a lot especially as we move into the cooler months.
Football parties, holiday gatherings, that kind of thing.
And entertaining can be a lot of work, which is why I love any appetizer or dish I can put together for company in less than 5 minutes of prep time.
This Mississippi pot roast dip is one of those recipes.
I can almost always throw it together at a moment’s notice because it’s so easy and I almost always have the ingredients in my house.
It’s almost no work and delivers big flavors based on the briny pepperoncini, ranch seasoning, and au jus of a classic Mississippi pot roast dinner.
Ingredients
To make this you’ll need:
- Sour cream– Full fat is best for creaminess.
- Mayonnaise– Real, full fat mayo and not reduced fat, Miracle Whip, or other mayonnaise style dressings.
- Seasoning packets– A 1 ounce packet of au jus gravy mix and a 1 ounce packet of ranch seasoning mix
- Pepperoncini peppers– Diced
- Pepperoncini pepper juice– Right from the pepper jar
How to Make
This Mississippi dip is so easy to make!
Just whisk the sour cream, mayo, and seasoning packets together in a small bowl until evenly combined.
Then stir a half cup of the diced peppers and pepper juice until the dip is evenly combined.
Scoop the the dip into a serving bowl, spreading it into an even layer.
Cover the dip and refrigerate it for 1 to 2 hours to let it chill through.
Prior to serving, uncover it, give it a stir and then top it with the remaining diced pepperoncini.
Serve with your favorite dippers and enjoy!
Dipping Ideas
We like to serve this dip with:
- slices of fresh baguette
- crackers
- carrot and celery sticks
- cucumber slices
- pretzels
Storing Leftovers
This dip stores very well in an air tight container in the fridge for up to 3 to 4 days.
Just stir it before serving it again.
Tips and Tricks
- This dip is very salty due to the sodium in the seasoning packets. If sodium content is a concern for you, you could buy the low sodium au jus packets and sodium free ranch packets. They are available at some grocery stores or online.
- Want to make it ahead of time? I often make it the morning I serve it and let it sit in the fridge until the evening. Just give it a good stir before you serve it.
- I highly recommend the chill time to give the flavors a chance to meld and develop. However, if you are in a hurry, you can put it out right away and it will still be yummy!
