No Churn Lemonade Ice Cream #SummerDessertWeek
No churn lemonade ice cream is a refreshing dessert that gives you ice cream shop quality ice cream without an ice cream maker. Tangy lemonade flavor in a smooth, sweet ice cream base is the perfect way to beat the heat this summer.
Homemade ice cream is such a treat because it’s so fun to make. Of course it’s even more fun to eat! With no churn ice cream, it’s so easy to make at home.
You don’t need any special gadgets or gizmos and the result is still a perfectly creamy ice cream.
WHAT IS NO CHURN ICE CREAM ANYWAY?
No churn ice cream is a popular method of making ice cream at home with no ice cream maker required.
It’s based on three ingredients: sweetened condensed milk, heavy cream, and vanilla extract. You can add almost any other flavor you want to that base.
In this case, I’m adding lemonade powder for that classic lemonade flavor.
Ice cream purists consider ice cream to have more of a custard base.
Many ice cream maker recipes call for milk or cream, sugar, and egg yolks to thicken the mixture and give it that luscious mouthfeel that makes ice cream so appealing.
However, according to The Kitchn, ice cream is solely a mixture of cream or milk while custard has milk or cream and eggs.
However, no churn ice cream is so popular because it manages to have that fabulous creamy dreamy texture with no help from an expensive, bulky ice cream maker.
The sweetened condensed milk gives no churn ice cream that classic ice cream mouthfeel without any eggs needed.
MAKING HOMEMADE ICE CREAM MADE EASY:
Making homemade ice cream has never been easier than with no churn ice cream.
This no churn lemonade ice cream is no exception. To make this ice cream, beat the heavy cream with a hand mixer until the cream thickens.
Make sure the cream is very cold when you are beating it. Then gently fold in the sweetened condensed milk, vanilla, and lemonade powder. You can use whatever brand you like for the lemonade powder, but I prefer the Crystal Light brand.
Keep folding the cream until its smooth but don’t fold too much and deflate the whipping cream Then add in the yellow food coloring and keep folding until the ice cream turns the desired color.
After this, you spoon the ice cream into a freezer safe container or a metal loaf pan and cover it. And now comes the hard part: you have to let the ice cream freeze for at least 5 hours, but overnight is better.
About 10 minutes prior to serving, take the ice cream out of the freezer and let it soften on the counter before scooping it into bowls or cones.
HAVE FUN WITH NO CHURN ICE CREAM FLAVORS:
Part of the fun of no churn ice cream is all the flavors you can come up with with literally no extra work.
I love to play with different no churn ice cream flavors. I love this no churn raspberry cheesecake ice cream when I’m in a fancy mood. And when I’m feeling like chocolate everything, this chocolate malt crunch ice cream is the absolute best.
To make this lemonade ice cream, I only needed to add in lemonade powder to the basic sweetened condensed milk, heavy whipping cream, and vanilla mix. But you could do so many other things to really make this flavor your own!
Follow the recipe for no churn lemonade ice cream and then as you are scooping it into the loaf pan before freezing, gently stir in vanilla cookies for lemonade pie ice cream or raspberries or strawberry slices for berry lemonade ice cream.
Or you could really up the sour factor and stir in sour candies. Because you’re making this without an ice cream maker, you don’t have to worry about jamming a machine with crazy toppings. Just add them to the mix, and gently fold in.
Don’t feel like you have to customize this no churn ice cream further though. It is the perfect lemony refreshing treat as is, and a delightful way to beat the heat on a hot summer day that you’ll whole family will love!
