Ingredients

To make this you’ll need:

  • Ketchup– 32 ounces of it
  • Spices– Black pepper, smoked paprika, Worcestershire sauce, and onion powder
  • Butter– A whole stick. Salted or unsalted.
  • Tomato paste– For richness
  • Vinegar– White vinegar or apple cider preferred
  • Brown sugar– Optional but will add a nice sweetness

How to Make

Making homemade barbecue sauce is so easy!

To do it, combine the ketchup, pepper, paprika, butter, Worcestershire sauce, tomato paste, and vinegar in a large pot over medium heat.

If you want a sweeter BBQ sauce, replace the Worcestershire with the brown sugar.

For something even more savory add onion powder.

Whatever you like!

Bring it to a boil and let it boil until the barbecue sauce thickens, stirring often.

Once the sauce cools, pour it into mason jars, and let it cool.

Storing

Store jarred sauce in the fridge for up to 4 days.

Can I freeze homemade barbecue sauce?

Yes!

For longer storage, you can transfer cooled barbecue sauce into a freezer safe, airtight container and freeze it for up to 3 months.

Just let it thaw in the fridge before using.

Ingredients

  • 32 oz Ketchup
  • 2 tbsp Black Pepper
  • 2 tbsp Smoked Paprika
  • 1 stick Butter
  • 5 tbsp Worcestershire Sauce
  • 1 6 oz can tomato paste
  • 1 1/2 cups Vinegar
  • 2 cups Brown Sugar optional
  • 2 tbsp Onion Powder optional

Instructions

  • Start by adding your ketchup, pepper, paprika, butter, Worcestershire sauce, tomato paste, and vinegar to a large pot.
    32 oz Ketchup, 2 tbsp Black Pepper, 2 tbsp Smoked Paprika, 1 stick Butter, 5 tbsp Worcestershire Sauce, 1 6 oz can tomato paste, 1 1/2 cups Vinegar
  • If you want a sweeter BBQ sauce, replace the Worcestershire with the brown sugar.
    2 cups Brown Sugar
  • For something even more savory add onion powder. Totally just a preference.
    2 tbsp Onion Powder
  • Boil until thick. It takes some time, keep stirring.
  • Pour into mason jars, and let cool. Serve and enjoy!
