With New Year’s Eve right around the corner, it’s time to whip up a little something extra sweet and extra fun and festive.
We normally have parties with a mix of kids and adults, and we all wanna have a little bit of fun.
Cupcakes are always a hit for all ages.
While the adults may love to clink glasses with a bubbly toast to ring in the New Year, the kids can get in on a bit of fun with these champagne cupcakes too.
Ingredients
Let’s break this down into ingredients for the cupcakes and for the frosting.
For the cupcakes you’ll need:
- White cake mix– A box of your favorite brand and the ingredients listed on the box
- Champagne– A bottle of your choice
For the frosting you’ll need:
- Butter- Room temperature so it is easy to cream
- Sugar– Powdered
- Champagne– Just a tablespoon to flavor the icing
- Sprinkles– Optional but highly recommended for decoration
How to Make Champagne Cupcakes
For something so fancy sounding, these cupcakes are actually super simple to whip together!
Just prepare a box of white cake mix according to the package instructions but make sure to mix a 1/4 cup of champagne into the batter.
Then line two 12 piece cupcake tins with paper liners that fit your occasion.
You could also use one extra large 24 count cupcake pan.
Fill each liner half full with batter.
Bake for the instructed time at 350 degrees.
When the cupcakes are done, let them cool completely.
How to Make Champagne Buttercream
While the cupcakes are cooling, make the champagne flavored buttercream.
To make it, cream the butter until it’s light and fluffy in the bowl of a stand mixer.
Add the sugar in one cup at a time, turning the mixer off when you add in the sugar to avoid a powdery explosion.
Beat the sugar in after each cup to fully combine it with the butter.
Then whip in the remaining tablespoon of champagne, beating until the mixture’s fluffy again.
Frost the Cupcakes
Once the cupcakes are cooled, frost them.
For the prettiest effect, scoop the frosting into a piping bag fit with the icing tip of your choice and pipe it on in a circular motion.
If you don’t have those on hand, then I’d suggest adding the frosting to a gallon sized ziplocking bag.
Squeeze the air out and push the frosting down to one corner of the bag and snip the corner off with scissors.
Then pipe it onto the cupcake.
Decorate with sprinkles!
Is there alcohol in champagne cupcakes?
There is 1/4 cup of champagne in the batter, but the alcohol will cook off while the cupcakes bake.
In the buttercream there is also a tablespoon of champagne, not nearly enough to make the cupcakes dangerous for kids to eat.
However if it bothers you, you can skip the champagne in the buttercream and replace it with vanilla instead.
Storing
Store cupcakes in a large tupperware container or a cupcake storage container on the counter for up to 4 days.
Tips and Tricks
- Using a cupcake scoop helps make sure you evenly fill the liners.
- Don’t substitute yellow cake mix for white. While the flavor is similar it won’t look quite as pretty with yellow cake mix.
- Check for doneness by inserting a toothpick into the center of a cupcake. The cupcakes are done when the toothpick comes out clean.

I think these would make a New Year’s day tradition, made with any leftover Champagne from the night before! Hmm maybe I’d have to squirrel away a bit.
Happy New Year’s and Happy Fiesta Friday! Thanks for sharing with us!
Mollie
I’d have to use some of the champagne when it is first opened, there never is any leftover! Yum. Thank you for bringing them to FF.
Lovely! This is the only way I want champagne from now on! Thanks for posting at Fiesta Friday and Happy New Years!
