Over Christmas break, we watch all the movies.

At least one during the day and another at night.

You can bet we like our snacks to go with it for the ultimate movie experience.

After the first day or so, plain popcorn gets kind of old.

So the sons and I like to get creative and play with all the seasonings.

We landed on a cheddar chili popcorn combination that is *chef’s kiss* perfection.

Cheesy, a tiny bit spicy, this savory popcorn is a winner!

How to Make

This is so easy to make!

Just separate the kernels from popcorn, and place popcorn in a large bowl.

Then, melt butter in a microwave safe bowl.

Mix the cheddar popcorn seasoning powder, chili powder, and mustard powder with the butter.

Pour the butter mixture evenly over the popcorn.

Let the popcorn cool about thirty minutes before serving.

Enjoy!

Is Cheddar Chili Popcorn Spicy?

It’s pretty mild since the only real heat comes from the chili powder, which to me is more smoky than spicy.

You could up the spice factor and toss a bit of cayenne pepper into the mix.

Do I need to salt this?

My advice is taste and see first.

The popcorn seasoning has a fair amount of salt so I didn’t think you needed to.

Storing Leftovers

Store leftovers in an airtight container on the counter for up to 2 days.

Tips and Tricks

  • You can add extra flavors to this if you want. A sprinkle of cayenne, smoked paprika or even lime zest would all be so good in this.
  • Make sure to toss the popcorn gently after you pour the butter on to help distribute everything evenly.
  • Don’t skip letting the popcorn cool a bit. It will be hot from the butter!
