I love making spooky treats for the boys to enjoy and get everyone in the spirit of Halloween.

But, I don’t typically have time for (or interest in- let’s be honest!) in overly complicated or highly involved recipes.

At least not for fun holiday treats.

Give me quick, easy, and still spooky!

This monster munch popcorn recipe is just that, and everybody always enjoys it whenever we serve it.

After the first time we made it, it almost immediately became a new tradition.

It made the perfect snack to enjoy while watching a Halloween movie marathon.

Sweet & just the right amount of spooky, this Monster Munch popcorn is a Halloween must have.

Ingredients Needed

Luckily, this spooky snack only needs a couple ingredients to come together.

To make it you’ll need:

  • Popcorn – I recommend using white popcorn since it will show the colors better, but yellow will work too. Cook the kernels according to the package directions.
  • Candy Melts – You’ll need 1/2 cup each white candy melts & orange candy melts, but keep them separated.
  • M&M’s – Look for spooky colored candies. One year I was able to find them in white, orange, and black & another in purple, green, and orange.
  • Candy Corn – You’ll need roughly 1/2 a cup.
  • Mellowcreme Pumpkins – You’ll need roughly 1/2 a cup.
  • Sprinkles – 2-3 tablespoons of any Halloween themed sprinkle mix.
  • Edible EyesCandy eyeballs, you can use any size- small, medium, or even large.

How To Make

Making popcorn mixes is so fun, partly because of how easy they are and this monster munch popcorn mix is no different.

Start by preparing your popcorn according to the package instructions.

You can use either the microwave kind, or kernels popped in oil on the stovetop. Both work great in this recipe!

Sift any unpopped kernels out of the popped popcorn and discard them.

Unpopped kernels aren’t only unappetizing, they can also present a chocking hazard and potentially chip teeth.

Set the cooked popcorn aside.

Cover a 9×13″ baking sheet with either waxed paper or parchment paper.

Be sure to use a rimmed baking sheet since this will prevent your Halloween popcorn mix from sliding off later on.

Add the popped popcorn to the prepared baking sheet in a single layer.

Set aside the extra, or prepare another tray for an extra batch.

Melt the white candy melts first, according to the package directions. Stir and reheating as directed until smooth.

Be careful not to overheat them or the chocolate will scorch, and there’s no way to salvage that.

Transfer the melted white chocolate to a large ziplocking bag, twist it until the twist meets the chocolate, and then snip off a small pieces of the corner.

You can use an oven mitt or even paper towels to hold the bag if the chocolate feels to hot.

Drizzle the white chocolate evenly out all over the popcorn on the baking sheet. Be sure to use it all.

Spread the m&m’s, candy corn, and pumpkins evenly out over the chocolate covered popcorn.

Melt the orange chocolate, repeating the steps, and then drizzle that out evenly over the candy covered popcorn.

Sprinkle the sprinkles out evenly over top, then place the edible eyes evenly out over the mixture- pressing in if needed.

Allow the monster munch popcorn to cool completely.

Break it apart, and it’s ready to serve!

Storing

If making to serve immediately, you may have leftovers.

Probably not, but if you do store them in an airtight container on the counter top for up to 1 week.

You can make this popcorn mix ahead of time, but make sure it’s completely cooled and the chocolate has set before breaking it apart and storing.

Can I Add This To Treat Bags To Hand Out?

While we only hand out store bought candies on Halloween- we love packaging this and sharing it for bake sales, church potlucks, and even as goodie bags for our Halloween parties.

Several years my kids took it to their class parties, prepackaged in treat bags, and it was a huge hit!

Buy the treat bags you want to use, we recommend clear ones so you can see the monster munch popcorn in the bag.

Package as much or as little monster munch popcorn in them as you’d like, and seal.

Add a cute decorative tag, or even print a simple label using a label maker.

Cute, easy, and ready to go.

Perfect party favors!
