We are huge fans of Italian subs in this house,
I didn’t think they could get any better than good old Chopped Sub Sandwiches, which chops up Italian sub toppings into bite size pieces so you get the perfect mouthful each time.
But I was wrong.
Chopped Italian sliders are better.
Because melted cheese obviously.
They are the same concept as the chopped sub sandwiches but in a naturally shareable form.
That means they are perfect for party appetizers or potlucks.
Ingredients
To make these you’ll need:
- Hawaiian rolls– A party pack of the sweet variety
- Mayonnaise– Real full fat mayo and not mayonnaise style dressing is preferable.
- Meats– Honey ham, large sliced deli pepperoni, and large sliced deli salami
- Veggies– Peeled and diced red onion, minced dill pickles, minced pepperoncini peppers, and shredded lettuce
- Sub oil/dressing– You can find this near the deli counter in most grocery stores or buy it online HERE .
- Cheese– Sliced provolone but you could substitute sliced mozzarella or even sliced American
- Butter– Melted
- Seasoning– Italian seasoning blend and garlic powder
How to Make
Making chopped Italian sliders is pretty easy- especially if you have made either sliders or an Italian sub before!
To do it, slice the Hawaiian rolls evenly in half lengthwise with a bread knife.
Set the tops aside, preferably keeping them intact in a single layer.
Spread 1/3 cup of mayonnaise evenly out over the top of the bottom buns.
Bake the slathered buns at 400° for 7-8 minutes or just until the buns are golden brown and crispy.
Then spread the cheese on the top buns in an even layer.
Roughly chop the meats on a cutting board so they are all pretty much even bite sized pieces.
Spread the meat mixture evenly out overtop of the cheese.
Toss the remaining mayonnaise, onion, pickles, peppers, lettuce, and oil together in a mixing bowl until they are evenly combined.
Spread the salad mixture evenly out overtop of the meat.
Place the top buns on top to close the sliders.
Set aside while you combine the butter, Italian seasoning, and garlic powder together in a small bowl.
Brush this mixture evenly out over the top of the sliders.
Bake for another 5-6 minutes, just until golden brown and crispy on top.
Slice, serve the sliders warm, and enjoy!
Storing Leftovers
Like most sandwiches, these are best enjoyed right after you make them.
If you do have leftovers, store them in an airtight container in the fridge for up to a day or two.
Keep in mind, the longer they sit in the fridge, the soggier they will get.
Tips and Tricks
- You can adjust the meat to suit your tastes and more or less of any one variety.
- If you can’t find sub oil, olive oil will do the trick.
- Feel free to omit any of the veggies you do not like.
