I grew up totally unaware that seafood was anything more than fish sticks or filet of fish sandwiches.
And while those still have a place in my heart for sure, I have had a total epiphany.
The realization that there is other seafood out there that’s not not breaded and fried but is so dang delicious.
This citrus salmon is one of those recipes.

We all happily eat it anytime because it’s just so darn delicious!
The Secret? Citrus Marinade for Salmon!
Marinating salmon is a the perfect way to infuse the fish with flavor but still give you a healthy main course especially when you bake or grill that salmon.
And paired with a salad or veggie and some seasoned rice- this chili lemon lime citrus salmon makes a simple meal that will have you savoring each bite.
Making Spiced Citrus-Infused Salmon- Healthy, But Incredibly Flavorful Fish
I often find myself marinating my fish, especially when I want a healthy option that’s still full of flavor.
Those recipes also almost always end up on my grill.
This citrus marinade for salmon is so bold that you can brush it on the salmon right before you put the fish in the oven.
With the lemon and lime juice base, the marinade is tart and bright but balanced by fresh herbs, fruity olive oil, and floral honey.

Ingredients
To make this you’ll need:
- Lemons– Juice one lemon and slice the other.
- Limes– Juice one lime and slice the other.
- Parsley– Freshly chopped parsley
- Water
- Spices– Salt, garlic powder, chili powder, cumin
- Honey– For a little sweet to balance the spice and tart
- Salmon- 4 filets
How to Make
This citrus salmon is so easy to make and can be on the table from start to finish in under 20 minutes!
To make it, preheat oven to 450 degrees.
Arrange salmon filets skin side down on baking sheet lined with foil and sprayed with nonstick spray.
Set the salmon aside and make the citrus marinade for the salmon.
To do it, whisk together the lemon and lime juice, honey, olive oil, water, garlic, chili powder, cumin, salt, and parsley until combined.
Pour or brush the citrus marinade over your salmon.
Place slices of lemon and lime on each piece of salmon.
Bake until salmon is cooked through about 12-15 minutes depending on the thickness of your salmon.
Serve immediately and enjoy!
What to Serve with Salmon
We almost always pair this with a simple side salad and a bed of wild rice.

Ingredients
- 2 lemons juice from one. Slice the other
- 2 limes juice from one. Slice the other
- ¼ cup freshly chopped parsley
- 1 ½ Tablespoons of olive oil
- 2 Tablespoons of water
- 1 ½ tsp salt
- 1 ½ tsp. garlic powder
- 1 ½ tsp. chili powder
- 1 tsp. ground cumin
- 2 Tablespoons of honey
- 4 salmon filets
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 450 degrees.
- Spray a baking sheet with cooking oil spray.
- Arrange salmon filets on baking sheet.
- In a bowl combine lemon and lime juice, honey, olive oil, water, garlic, chili powder, cumin, salt, and parsley and mix very well until thoroughly blended.2 lemons, 2 limes, ¼ cup freshly chopped parsley, 1 ½ Tablespoons of olive oil, 2 Tablespoons of water, 1 ½ tsp salt, 1 ½ tsp. garlic powder, 1 ½ tsp. chili powder, 1 tsp. ground cumin, 2 Tablespoons of honey, 4 salmon filets
- Pour/brush the glaze over your salmon. Place slices of lemon and lime on each piece of salmon. Bake until salmon is cooked through. About 12-15 minutes depending on the thickness of your salmon.
- Serve immediately.
Notes
- I like to brush on the marinade just before making the citrus salmon so it compliments the salmon flavor without overpowering it. If you want a stronger flavor from the marinade, let it sit covered in the marinade in the fridge for up to 30 minutes.
- Adjust the seasonings in the salmon to your liking.
- This recipe is written for roughly 5 ounce filets. However, you could get a larger filet and just adjust the cooking time so it cooks until it is opaque and 145 degrees in the thickest part.
- You can also use fresh cilantro leaves in place of the parsley.
