5 Minute Ice Cream In A Bag

A fun activity for the whole family, this easy ice cream is a synch to whip up & a refreshing science experiment.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup whole milk half and half, or cream
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 6 tbsp sea salt
  • 2 cups of ice
  • sandwich sized ziplock bag
  • quart sized ziplock bag

Instructions

  • In the sandwich sized ziplocking bag, add milk, sugar, and vanilla. Seal bag tightly.
  • In the quart sized bag, add the ice and salt.
  • Place the smaller bag inside the larger bag and seal tightly.
  • Shake the bag as hard as you can, without popping it open, for 5 minutes or until it reaches the consistency of ice cream.
  • Remove the smaller bag and give it a quick rinse to remove any pieces of salt. Make sure you rinse the opening as well.
  • Open the ice cream and eat it straight out of the bag with a spoon.

    Ok, so not what I was planning. Seemed like a lot of work and the ice cream wasn’t great. Maybe I’ll make it again.

    I loved the ice cream it tasted amazing! Not to be rude or anything but I think I got frostbite on my hands while shaking it up so you might want to put on gloves. Will try again with gloves and strawberries.

    Ice to salt ratio worked perfectly to turn a 8oz kids protein shake into a ice cream treat in less than 10 minutes. I will have to try the actual ice cream recipe in the future. I ended up transferring the ice bag into an empty large(40oz) peanut butter container so it was easier to hold and shake as well as roll across the floor, but the bag was working really well to freeze without the jar. The end result had nice small crystals and was very satisfying. Adding to the recipe box. Thanks!

  4. I love the ice cream but it did not have enough flavoring so next time I will add more vanilla but other than that everything was perfect.

    I usually don’t comment on recipes but this was really nice, I put Coco powder in it and left it in the freezer for a bit because I didn’t have much ice but it really tasted like chocolate ice cream

    Tried it with cream and eye-balled all the ingredients. Also did the ice cream in a quart sized bag and the ice and salt (used table salt) in a gallon bag. It came out heavenly! This is a no fail recipe!

    Lots of fun with the kids! We used regular table salt and put the small bag into a plastic jar with ice and salt so they could roll the jar across the floor. Youngest added strawberry syrup and it all came out great!

    It did not work, but I’m going to give it a second shot and put it in the freezer. I’ll let you know if it works.

    Everyone who says it doesn’t work, you’re doing it wrong. Just put in the right ingredients in the right bag and put the smaller bag in the big bag. Do not overfill bag with cream/half and half. Make sure to zip both bags very tightly. Then, shake the bag until most of the ice melts. The results will be very nice. I enjoyed it and so did my family.
