Strawberries & Cream Overnight Oatmeal
Strawberries and cream overnight oats infuses more flavor into your morning meal and needs only 5 minutes of prep time before bed. It proves oatmeal doesn’t have to come out of a store bought packet but you can make a healthy, tasty set it and forget breakfast in snap.
Strawberries are a seasonal favorite around here.
We can’t get enough of them.
Over the spring and summer, we love them in pretty much everything including oatmeal.
Oatmeal on its own is good, but it’s even better with add ins.
And it doesn’t need to be cooked or served hot to be amazing.
This strawberries and cream overnight oatmeal is just as delicious cold right out of the fridge as it is warmed up so it’s a perfect wholesome way to start any hot day.
What are overnight oats?
Overnight oats are a real thing.
A magical thing.
Instead of boiling rolled oats in hot water, you make these by soaking oats for an extended period of time in milk.
So I can prep them before bed and wake up with breakfast for myself and the boys ready to go.
That’s priceless on busy mornings since I’m not a mom who’s up at the crack of dawn, crackin eggs and being a short order cook.
With these, I don’t have to!
Ingredients
To make these you’ll need:
- Oats– Use old fashioned rolled oats, not steel cut or instant.
- Milk– I recommend 2% but you can use lower fat or higher fat milk if you prefer.
- Strawberry jam– Use your favorite kind.
- Vanilla yogurt– You can use regular or Greek.
- Strawberries– Sliced fresh strawberries for topping.
How to Make
These are so easy to make!
Just add all of the ingredients to a small jar.
Then stir together until evenly combined and seal the jar with a lid.
Refrigerate it for at least two hours or overnight.
When you are ready to eat, remove the jar from the fridge and give it a good stir.
Then, add a few sliced strawberries and dig right in or you can transfer to a bowl, heat it, and enjoy it warm.
How long should I refrigerate overnight oats?
At least a solid two hours, but overnight is ideal.
I can prep it on my way to bed, and wake up with breakfast ready to grab and go.
Can I meal prep overnight oats?
Yes!
While these are best on days 1 and 2, you can make these up to 5 days in advance and still keep some of the texture.
Just add the fresh strawberries just prior to serving.
Do I Have To Eat Overnight Oats Cold?
While the cold soaked oats soften overnight in the fridge and are meant to be ready to eat in the morning, you do not have to eat them cold.
If warm oatmeal is more to your liking, you can still use this easy prep method and then pop them in the microwave just until heated through.
You’ve still got an easy, hearty grab and go breakfast ready with minimal effort.
Tips and Tricks
- I suggest using 2 % milk, because of its consistency but you can use any milk you choose. Oats not creamy enough for you? Stir in a bit more milk before digging in.
- Want sweeter oats? Don’t add sugar, instead add an extra dollop of strawberry jam to your oats, and stir it in just before eating.
- Also, if you like to control your ingredients more and cut down on added sugar, you don’t have to use vanilla flavored yogurt. You could also sub plain yogurt and use your favorite vanilla flavoring. Similarly, you can use sugar free jam if preferred.
- This recipe is also written for one full serving, but don’t let that stop you. I regularly double, triple, or even quadruple it to feed my hungry crew. How often is that an easy feat?
