Why is it that burritos and soft tacos always taste so much better at a good Mexican restaurant?

I think it comes down to the tortillas.

Most of the time, they serve them in fresh, homemade tortillas.

And they are like little warm blankets that lovingly tuck in all your favorite taco and burrito fillings inside them.

Storing

Homemade tortillas are best right after you make them.

However, if you have leftovers, you can wrap them in a paper towel and store them in a large ziplocking bag in the fridge for up to a week.

Make sure to press the air out before you seal the bag.

Before you enjoy them again, you may want to heat them up in a hot pan on the stove just until the tortillas are warm.

Can you freeze homemade flour tortillas?

Yes!

You absolutely can freeze flour tortillas for up to 3 months.

Seal them in a freezer safe, airtight bag and pop them in the freezer.

Defrost them prior to using them again.

I absolutely recommend heating up previously frozen tortillas on the stove to make them taste their best.

Tips and Tricks

  • You can use a tortilla press instead of a rolling pin to save yourself some elbow grease and get your tortillas nice and thin.
  • Make sure to let the dough rest before you roll it out. This gives the gluten in the tortillas a chance to relax a little so the tortillas will be softer and easier to roll.
  • Covering them is a must! It keeps the tortillas nice and soft.
