Grilling season is the best season.
Not only is the weather perfect but I get to take a break from making dinner.
My husband will happily grill and I can sit back, put my feet up, and relax.
These honey garlic chicken kabobs are one of his go to meals to cook on the grill.
With simple prep that pays off with such big flavor, it’s easy to see why!
Ingredients
To make these you’ll need:
- Chicken breasts– Boneless skinless breasts cut into 1 inch pieces
- Marinade ingredients– Vegetable oil, honey, soy sauce, black pepper, and minced garlic
- Onions– Large onions, peeled, and then cut into 2 inch pieces
- Bell peppers– Seeds removed and then cut into 2 inch pieces. While you can use any variety of bell peppers for these kabobs, I recommend going with either yellow, orange, red, or a combination. I’d suggest avoiding green bell peppers since they aren’t as sweet, and won’t pair as well with the overall flavor.
You’ll also need skewers.
You can either use wooden skewers you’ve soaked in water or these reusable metal skewers.
How to Make
These chicken kabobs are so easy to make!
To do it, start by making the marinade by stirring the oil, honey, soy sauce, garlic, and pepper together in a large bowl.
Add chicken to the bowl, making sure the marinade covers all the chicken.
Cover the bowl and refrigerate it for at least two hours, though longer is better!
When you are ready to make the kabobs, preheat your grill to high heat.
Then, drain the chicken and discard the marinade.
Assemble the skewers by threading the chicken and the vegetables alternately onto the skewers.
Lightly oil the grill grate.
Place skewers onto the grill and cook for 12 to 15 minutes, or until the chicken juices run clear.
Remove from the grill and serve!
Enjoy!
What goes good with chicken kabobs?
It comes down to personal preference but we often serve these with:
- rice
- a big salad
- potato salad
- pasta salad
- crusty bread
- corn on the cob
Honestly, it depends on our mood and what we have but any classic barbecue side dishes work well with this.
Do you flip kabobs on the grill?
Yes! Rotate the kabobs while cooking them, turning them every few minutes so the meat and veggies cook evenly and all the way through.
Storing Leftovers
Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
Reheat on the stovetop or in the microwave until warmed through.
Tips and Tricks
- The longer the kabobs marinade the tastier they will be! You could even set these up to marinade the night before you want to cook them.
- Want a little more zip? Add some crushed red pepper or even sriracha to the marinade
- You could play with the veggies and add thick slices of zucchini or button mushrooms.
