Smoked Baked Potatoes
Smoked baked potatoes are an easy way to upgrade the classic side dish. Throwing Russet potatoes in the smoker infuses this simple, classic side dish with so much flavor!
We are a a meat and potatoes kind of family.
So that means baked potatoes are on our menu fairly frequently.
And these smoked baked potatoes might be my favorite way to enjoy the classic side.
Just changing the cooking method gives the potatoes so much extra flavor.
It takes them from ordinary to extraordinary just like that!
Ingredients
To make these you’ll need:
- Potatoes– Large russet potatoes
- Olive oil
- Salt

How to Make
Making smoked baked potatoes is so easy!
Just scrub the potatoes and pat them dry with paper towels.
Then, poke holes evenly all over the washed potatoes with a fork and rub them with with olive oil.
Sprinkle salt onto the oiled potatoes.
Put the potatoes directly on your smoker’s rack.
Smoke the potatoes at 225 degrees for 2.5 to 3 hours or until the potatoes are fork tender with crispy skins.
Transfer the smoked potatoes to a cooling rack using a pair of tongs and let them cool until they are just warm to the touch.
Serve the smoked baked potatoes with your favorite toppings and enjoy!
Toppings for Smoked Baked Potatoes
You can top this with all the classic baked potatoes toppings like:
- butter
- sour cream
- cheese
- chopped chives
- chili
Or turn these into a full meal by topping them with toppings like:
- pulled pork

Storing Leftovers
Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days.
Reheat them in the microwave or the oven until warmed through.
What wood should I use to make smoked baked potatoes?
You can use any wood you like.
Hickory and mesquite will leave a stronger smoky flavor than a mild fruit wood like apple wood, which will have a slightly sweet background.

- Make sure you poke holes all through the surface of the potatoes so they potatoes don’t explode while you cook them.
