Red White and Blue Waffles

Fluffy red, white, and blue waffles are the perfect patriotic breakfast treat to serve for fourth of July breakfast. These festive waffles would also make the perfect base for waffles and ice cream after a fireworks show.

Summer is officially unofficially here. That means longer days, warmer weather, fireworks, and red, white, and blue everything! I love to get into the different seasonal celebrations when I can. I make it a point to do so as much as I can, especially while my youngest boys are still at the age to enjoy my festivities.

These fluffy red, white, and blue waffles are just the thing for a festive summer breakfast. I would definitely serve them up on the fourth of July for breakfast, or even as part of a DIY waffles and ice cream sundae station at a fourth of July party. Of course, you could also serve this red, white, and blue poke cake as dessert too.

These fluffy waffles are extra delicious because not only are they homemade waffles but they have an added punch of flavor. The red waffles have diced strawberries running throughout them, while the blue waffles have chopped blueberries. Plus, the batter itself is so yummy. Whereas many waffle recipes are a bit lackluster, this recipe has an added pop of flavor from vanilla and butter extract. The result? Waffles that are sweet, buttery, and scrumptious.

Making these patriotic waffles is not hard. To make them, turn on your waffle iron. Then combine your dry ingredients in a large bowl. In a second bowl, you can whisk together your milk and eggs. Then in the same bowl, mix in the melted butter, the vanilla, and the butter extract. Then pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients, mixing until combined. Once the batter is mixed together, divide it into two bowls. In one bowl, add red food coloring and finely chopped strawberries. In the second bowl, add the blue food coloring and the blueberries.

Not only do the chopped fruits add extra flavor, but the fruits help deepen the colors of the waffles. This is especially important for the red waffles. The added strawberries help ensure that the waffles look red, not pink so you don’t have to add tons of food coloring.

Once the batter is ready, just spray your waffle iron with nonstick spray, ladle the batter in and cook away.
