Instant Pot Ground Beef & Potato Hash
Instant Pot ground beef and potato hash is a hearty, tasty meal perfect for busy weeknights. This classic comfort food satisfies even the pickiest eaters and only needs a few ingredients and 15 minutes to make!
When fall hits and the season of back to school craziness followed by holiday season madness really ramps up, I need quick and easy no fuss meals.
I always keep ground beef and potatoes on hand for just that reason.
Plus, my boys are all meat and potato eaters so it’s win win.
This Instant Pot ground beef and potato hash is a time saving meat and potato dinner that is delicious and hearty, perfect for a family full of hungry boys!
It’s filling on its own but pairs well with almost any side.
Plus, it comes together from start to finish in 15 minutes.
And because everything is cooked directly in the Instant Pot, clean up is a breeze.
Can’t go wrong with this!
Ingredients
To make this you’ll need:
- Ground beef– Go for leaner ground beef if you can to keep it from getting too greasy.
- Onion– A large yellow onion chopped
- Potatoes– Russet potatoes washed and cut into cubes
- Beef stock– Don’t substitute water here. The stock adds richness
- Salt and pepper
How to Make
I’m not kidding when I tell you that this Instant Pot beef hash is the easiest meal to make.
It’s the perfect back pocket meal for when you just don’t know what to make for dinner and need to get dinner on the table fast.
To do it, start by chopping your onion.
Then peel and cube your potatoes and set them aside.
After your vegetables are cut, add the onion and the ground beef to the inner pot of the Instant Pot.
Turn the Pot to saute mode.
Cook the meat and onions until the meat is brown.
Once the meat is brown, add the potatoes, salt, pepper, and beef broth.
Stir the ingredients to combine them well.
Then secure the lid on the Instant Pot and make sure the pressure valve is set to sealing.
Set the cooking time to 4 minutes on manual high pressure.
After 4 minutes, do a quick pressure release and serve.
Garnish with fresh parsley if you’re feeling fancy.
Enjoy!
Can you really brown ground beef in an Instant Pot?
Yes!
Just use sauté mode first to brown it right in the inner liner of the pot.
Storing Leftovers
Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days.
This reheats beautifully in the microwave!

I am always looking for instant pot recipes! This was looks great!!
So good! Added into our weekly dinner rotation.
I tried this but read the instructions on the Instant Pot which says to warm the pot for Saute BEFORE adding any ingredients. This was a good point that was missed in the recipe
That is not a necessary step. It just starts to brown the meat quicker when at the hot setting.
I have a veeerrryyy picky hubby that does not eat veggies so this recipe was great for both of us! I add frozen peas to mine afterwards..so good!!
Surprisingly so good! I often use ground turkey instead of beef, so some vegetable oil needs to be added along with the ground turkey and onions or food may burn. I didn’t think of that, and suddenly the bottom had burned food stuck to it. (This wasn’t like how food sticks for a while until hot enough and then “lets go.”) Adding some oil and scraping those char spots quickly took care of it. The sauté setting was 4 (IP Duo Eve Plus has a 1-6 sauté setting.)
Potatoes were cubed a bit small (I’m so bad at cubing) so I cooked for 3 minutes. 2 might have worked.
And for newbies, maybe add between steps 1 and 2 to turn off the IP, plus a reminder to scrape with a non-metal utensil any browned bits on the bottom before bringing to pressure to avoid getting the dreaded burn error?
Back to eating – yum and thank you!
Family loved it! Great, easy meal that is as tasty as it is easy to put together!
I have a bunch of small red potatoes – will they work? And russets come in so many sizes, from small to massive, so I’d love a sense of roughly how many cups or pounds/ounces.
Thanks so much for the recipe!
