Copy Cat McDonald’s Big Mac
Get an authentic taste of your favorite fast food burger with this Copy Cat McDonald’s Big Mac. It’s got everything you crave about the classic double decker sandwich, including the ‘secret sauce’, that’s a spot on replica.
My kids often think that they’re the unluckiest children in the world.
They have a roof over their heads, clothes they like, comfortable beds to sleep in, and a home-cooked meal on the table almost every night.
They have things like gaming consoles. Several have phones. They have access to things like Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime. If their grades are good they get to have and go on sleepovers, to the movies, the local amusement parks with friends.
At this point you’re probably wondering why they think their lives aren’t all that great. I find myself shaking my head, often trying to wrap my mind around it.
Their reasoning is very simple.
We generally cook at home, because we’ve found it to be the most economical choice for our budget, with the added bonus of it also being a healthier option for our family. In short, they don’t get to go out to eat nearly as much as they think they should.
And even when we’re out and about, rarely do we stop for fast food. We make them wait, just like us, until we get… home.
I know, and to quote The Little Mermaid– ‘those poor, unfortunate souls’.
Pretty sure when they’re grown and have jobs that give them disposable income and unlimited transportation at least one (or two or three or four) of them will go on a fast food diet until they just can’t take another bite of burgers, chicken nuggets, or fries.
Hope not, but I can totally see it happening.
Or maybe they’ll get it out of their system by downing an entire large pizza like Son #1 once did, in one sitting, and spending the rest of the evening sick as a dog and unable to leave the bathroom. Only time will tell.
ln the meantime, they’ll have to settle for the infrequent times they’re Dad and I say ‘yes’, not to the dress, but to the drive through.
By far, if they’re picking the place, they’re favorite burger joint is McDonald’s. Specifically, the Big Mac. With it’s yummy, but not often replicated special sauce. It’s definitely a winning combination.
And when your at their age, your eyes are always bigger than your belly– and it’s a real buzz kill when you cannot in fact order more than one.
So I thought I’d throw them a bone, and while we weren’t going out for lunch– I decided to try and make a Copy Cat McDonald’s Big Mac.
The united, and enthusiastic round of ‘thank yous’ I got with every first, second, and even third bite, told me that not only was it a huge success that this was also one truly appreciated meal.
Can’t get out? Don’t feel like putting on real clothes to leave the house? Or dragging all the rambunctious kids out, knowing someone will knock over a cup of soda and the inevitable argument or tantrum will rear it’s ugly head?
Stay right where you are. This Copy Cat McDonald’s Big Mac has got you covered. It’s even got the ‘secret sauce’, that actually tastes like the secret sauce. Promise. Cross my heart.
Serve it with some skinny, crispy french fries and an ice cold coke for an authentic experience at home. It’s easy enough for lunch or dinner. You pick.
It’s so good the kids will be too busy devouring their meal to worry about anything else. At least for a few minutes.

Oh the poor dears, it is such a crying shame they suffer so! ;~) LoL
I do believe my very favorite burger “out there”…is the big mac. Though we occasionally but a meal out we no longer go to McD’s so I have missed this special sandwich.
Okay, yes, I am dating myself here….but I remember when McD’s created the Big Mac. If you could say the “two all beef patties, special sauce….” saying then you would be rewarded with a free big mac. I was a child, but my mom drilled that into me until I knew it fowards and backwards. As we were on a very tight budget it was a very special treat.
Thank you for sharing the secret to satisfying my craving!
Have a very blessed day!
Kath
I’m so glad you enjoyed the recipe AND that it gave you such a wonderful walk down memory lane. I feel like we all have at least one great experience associated with this burger.
Nothing beats homemade recipes.
I couldn’t agree more.
Come to this recipe often as I love Big Macs but almost never go to Mcdonald’s. I’m older and more sofisticaed now so I ordered some take out truffle fries and made these burgers. In my opinion, perfect meal. I do copycat recipes quite often. Good thing I have a Bowflex. Lol
This literally looks just like a BigMac but I am 100% sure tastes WAY better. Thank you for this recipe ๐
You’re so right– it definitely does, and I’m so glad you enjoyed it.
When dining out, just before leaving the house, I always try to pick one aside from McDonald’s, but I always end up at McDonald’s. I love their burgers and your copycat version sounds so perfect! I need a fries now, please. ๐
I have the same thing happen to me allllllll the time Jhuls.
This MacD Big Mac copy cat burger sounds great! What a treat and so much better for you than a regular Big Mac! Thank you for sharing at Fiesta Friday ๐
Thanks, Petra– and I have to agree.
Hey I was just wondering what brand of French dressing did you use
My local store brand- Kroger.
Hi – how do you recommend I prepare the hamburger patties? Can’t wait to try to this out!
We just use lean ground beef and press them out into thin circular patties. Salt & pepper both sides, and for these we pan fried them.
The flavors were spot on but the sauce definitely served more than 1 burger
I have never had a big mac until 5 minutes ago an the secret sauce is amazing I had to look it up. I fell in love with it. I do appreciate your recipe. I will definitely be using it thanks your great
They’re soooo good, right?? We love our copy cat version, and I know you will too!
I actually made it and its very good. Thanks for the recipe it works great.
I made these last night, Meaghan, and they really tasted just like the real thing. I was tickled. ๐ I eat fast food maybe once a year, so it’s a rare-enough treat anyway that I don’t feel guilty for the splurge last night. These are really so good. Thank you for the recipe–I’ve already added it to my favorite recipes cookbook. ๐
Happy new year!
I’m so glad you liked them! We thought they were pretty spot on too.
ยกgracias!
Ahhh, thank you, thank you, thank you! With three gluten allergies in our house, and a starving 18 year old man child…I was on the hunt for a Big Mac copy cat recipe. I found lots of them but went with yours because the ingredients made sense. The sauce is spot on! The patties need to be thin and we used velveeta slices for the cheese. Everyone loved them! Thanks for posting!
I’m so glad you found our recipe and that it was able to be enjoyed by all. Thanks so much for taking the time to let me know!!
Gave this one a try tonight and it turned out quite well. I used larger patties and burger buns so created a giant big mac that I had to face mash in order to eat (was incredibly satisfying).
To top it off I had my wife pick up some fries and a coke from McDonalds on her way home go with it ๐
Great recipe and so spot on. What would give your writings and presentation that five star, polished look, would be if you checked for typos and grammar, only because theyโre distracting and take away from the objective. IMHO, Iโd want my readers to focus on my super blog, not minor mistakes that hit you right in the eye; ๐ accuracy all around. Regards- your writings are def worth it! TY!
Grammar Nazi – Your comment is constructive and there is nothing wrong with that, but giving a 3 star rating on a 5 star recipe hurts everyone. It’s how I base whether or not to click on a recipe link. If the recipe is fabulous I certainly don’t need you clouding the rating with your 3 star grammar review. It’s not a Supreme Court brief. This recipe is spot on and deserves a 5 star rating.
I love Big Macs but I am not a huge fan of fast food. I can not wait to try these!
These were great! I used 1000 Island dressing and two slices of cheese but will use one next time. I’m sorry about that one person who commented on your grammar. I loved your post and hate when people go out of their way to mention something stupid like grammar in a blog post, it’s not an English paper! Thanks for the recipe!
Aww, thanks girl! I went to college, I did- but I feel the same. I’m just hear to engage with my readers, share family anecdotes, and enjoy a mutual love of yummy goodness. 1000 island is what I use in a pinch! So glad you enjoyed the burgers, and can’t wait to see what else you find and enjoy here!
It’s pretty satisfying for when I’m craving a Big Mac and trying to eat rather better. I do have to say, for the sauce, way too much mayonnaise. I can’t find the flavor similarity between this sauce and Big Mac sauce. Still edible though.
Just made the Big Mac last night and I must say that this recipe is on point! Iโm definitely making it again, but with thinner patties-I couldnโt finish it all ๐
So I am going to try this recipe as it seems like it will be good. Your descriptions and story is interesting and I actually kinda read it. I must leave a comment though, not about the recipe, but the grammar. Drives me crazy when their, there, theyโre, youโre, and your are all used incorrectly. Only reason I stopped reading it was that was all I could focus on was that it was all wrong. Thatโs my rant. Thanks.
nice
Your recipe sounds fab! I can’t wait to try it! I love Love your writing flair! I agree this is no English paper! Also love your blog name 4sonsRus! Very unique! It would fit my family too! Always hungry boys around!
There, their, they’re.
You, your, you’re.
Please learn the difference. It really makes you look stupid.
