How to Make

Making these copycat apple pie baked beans is pretty easy!

Just pulse the apple pie filling, barbecue sauce, and barbecue rub together in a blender just until combined and the apples are in smaller pieces.

Set the mixture aside.

Then cook the bacon and onion in a large skillet set over medium high heat, stirring often, until the bacon is brown and a little crispy and the onions are soft.

Remove the skillet from heat and discard all but 2 tablespoons worth of the bacon grease.

Stir the beans into the skillet with the reserved bacon grease, bacon, and onions.

Transfer this to a 9×13″ baking dish.

Then stir the prepared apple pie filling mixture into the dish until it’s evenly combined.

Spread the apple pie baked bean out in an even layer.

Bake at 325° for at least 90 minutes, but up to 2 hours.

Serve warm and enjoy!

Tips and Tricks

  • Don’t over puree the apple pie filling. You want there to be apple pieces and not an apple puree in the beans.
  • Make sure to let the beans cook for at least 90 minutes. The liquid cooks down and sugars will caramelize, deepening the flavors.
  • The bacon is a must! It adds a nice salty, savory contrast to the sweet apple pie filling.
  • Let the beans cool for 5-10 minutes before serving. The sauce will thicken up while it cools.
