Ingredients

  • 1 20 oz can apple pie filling
  • 1/2 cup barbecue sauce
  • 2 tbsp barbecue rub
  • 8-10 slices bacon diced
  • 1 small yellow onion peeled & diced
  • 2 28 oz cans Bush's original baked beans

Instructions

  • Add the apple pie filling, barbecue sauce, and rub to a blender. Pulse, but do not puree, just until combined and the apples are smaller pieces. Set aside.
1 20 oz can apple pie filling, 1/2 cup barbecue sauce, 2 tbsp barbecue rub
  • Add the bacon and onion to a large skillet set over medium high heat. Cook, stirring often, until the bacon's browned and a little crispy and the onions are soft. Remove the skillet from heat, then drain off all but 2 tablespoons worth of the bacon grease.
8-10 slices bacon, 1 small yellow onion
  • Add the beans to the skillet, stirring until evenly combined. Transfer the bean mixture to a 9x13" baking dish.
2 28 oz cans Bush's original baked beans
  • Add the prepared apple pie filling mixture to the dish, stirring gently until evenly combined, then spread out in an even layer.
  • Bake at 325° for at least 90 minutes, but up to 2 hours.
  • Serve warm and enjoy!

Notes

  • Don't over puree the apple pie filling. You want there to be apple pieces and not an apple puree in the beans.
  • Make sure to let the beans cook for at least 90 minutes. The liquid cooks down and sugars will caramelize, deepening the flavors.
  • The bacon is a must! It adds a nice salty, savory contrast to the sweet apple pie filling.
  • Let the beans cool for 5-10 minutes before serving. The sauce will thicken up while it cools.
