While you can’t go wrong with a juicy burger, you can give it an amazing face lift by introducing a few contemporary toppings. Juicy grilled burgers are served on seasoned, toasted buns with a thick layer of creamy, melted shredded mozzarella. Slather them with a layer of robust pizza sauce, and topped off with a heaping helping of sliced pepperoni on top. And while the idea may seem avant garde, one bite will seal the deal that these appeal to any generation.

Pizza Burgers 5

Have you ever heard the old adage ‘tied to the kitchen sink’? With all my guys to feed, dinner time can be a lot of work– which often makes that saying seem oh-so fitting for me. Luckily for me the school year is coming to an end, and that means it’s that wonderful time of year when things begin to slow down. I’m so looking forward to less homework, less house work and more hours spent outside throwing a ball or going to the park after supper.

Pizza Burgers 2

Thankfully I have a perfect solution that conveniently makes dinner a breeze and frees me up, pun totally intended. And that’s where Walmart comes into the picture! I love the variety and convenience their frozen food section offers me.

I mean look at all these great options? They’re quick and easy which is always a bonus for busy parents. They’re also affordable, and I’ll let you in on a little secret I discovered while I was out. Right now you can buy any two participating Tyson®, Ball Park®, State Fair®, or Jimmy Dean® products like the ones above from the frozen food section at your local Walmart. Snap a quick picture of your receipt when you get home, and you get a movie ticket to see Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows in theaters now.

Pizza Burgers

Seriously– it’s that easy! I love being able to save money on the grocery budget so we have a little ‘extra’ to spend making those special memories– like taking them to the theater. Who’s up for popcorn AND soda with our flick??

While I like to be frugal with my purchases, I also always have to keep in mind that with four growing boys and one hungry husband– all my meals (snacks included) need to be chock full of protein to keep them fueled and full. I mean who can concentrate on a movie when your tummy’s grumbling?Tyson Chicken Strips Simple Snack Supper Salad

One of my favorite go-to snack suppers is a fresh simple side salad topped with one or two crispy chicken strips. Healthy and filling.

Still with that promotion and a certain group of radioactive turtles on my mind, I couldn’t get pizza off the brain. I was looking at my bag of Ball Park® Flame Grilled Beef Patties when a light bulb went off.

Pizza Burgers 3

My kids love of pizza might rival Michelangelo’s own– if not, it comes pretty close. They love any and all forms of the crispy, cheesy good stuff, and that is something I knew I could build on. I couldn’t wait to get started knowing the tickle they’d get out of a batch of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle-themed Pizza Burgers. Using Ball Park® flame-grilled beef patties, I was able to build on an awesome, juicy, easy burger– saving me a huge amount of time and effort.

Pizza Burgers 4

Serve these bad boys on toasted, seasoned buns. Load them up with creamy mozzarella cheese, robust tomato sauce, and a heaping helping of pepperoni slices. My little ninjas loved them. They raved about them for days, and begged to have them again. Even the hubs was blown away by how addicting they are. Get in on the action and build your own pizza burgers. They’re easily customizable and sure to appeal to the kids and the kid still in all of us grown-ups.

Ingredients

  • 6 buns
  • 3 tbsp butter softened
  • Italian seasoning
  • 6 Ball Park Beef Patties
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella
  • 1 cup tomato based pizza sauce
  • sliced pepperoni

Instructions

  • Butter the insides of the hamburger buns, and place them onto a baking sheet-- buttered side up. Sprinkle a pinch of Italian seasoning over the buns and put them in the oven, under the broiler, just until they're toasted and golden brown. Leave the bottom buns on the baking sheet, set aside the tops.
  • Prepare the beef patties according to the package directions. Transfer each cooked patty to a corresponding bottom bun.
  • Liberally sprinkle shredded mozzarella onto each patty. If desired, pop the burgers into the oven, again under the broiler, just until the cheese is melted.
  • Spread 2-3 tablespoons of sauce out over the cheese on each burger. Top the sauce with a few slices of pepperoni and then cap the burger by putting their top buns on.
  • Serve immediately, and enjoy!

I don’t think I’ve had a pizza burger since I was a kid (A & W) but this sounds like a great way to dress up a burger!
