I love to take full advantage of our local farmers market.

Every week they run these amazing specials.

Lately, it’s been on sweet potatoes.

I’ve bought so many of them that I had to come up with new ways to use them so they didn’t go bad and so that nobody got tired of them.

And our favorite way? Homemade sweet potato chips.

They are a great easy snack and give you tons of flavor options.

Instead of just lightly salting them, like I would a regular chip, I opted for a sweet cinnamon flavor.

While this is my favorite variation, you can definitely switch up your seasoning options to suit your own tastes!

Ingredients

To make these you’ll need:

  • Sweet potatoes– Use small sweet potatoes so that they are easier to slice and so the chips are reasonably sized.
  • Seasonings– My favorite version uses honey and cinnamon

How to Make Sweet Potato Chips in the Oven

These crunchy snacks are so easy to make.

To do it, preheat the oven to 425 degrees.

Then, start by washing and scrubbing the sweet potatoes clean.

Dry them with paper towels.

Once the potatoes are washed and dried, use a sharp knife or a mandoline slicer to carefully slice potatoes into thin coins.

Then, spread the slices out on a nonstick baking sheet or a baking sheet that has been lightly coated with nonstick spray.

Bake the chips for 15-20 minutes, or until extra crisp, but not burned.

Toss the sweet potato chips with the cinnamon and honey or other desired seasonings until evenly coated.

Storing

To store homemade sweet potato chips, first let them cool off completely. Once they are cool, put them in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.

Are sweet potato chips healthy?

This version is pretty healthy! It doesn’t use any oil at all and the chips are baked not fried so you can enjoy the crispy flavor with no added fat.

Plus sweet potatoes are jam packed full of good for you things like tons of Vitamin A, fiber, and antioxidants.

Other Flavoring Ideas

While this honey cinnamon version is my favorite, you can switch up the seasonings however you want. Here are a few ideas:

  • Toss them with 2 tsp of ranch seasoning or barbecue seasoning.
  • For a southwest flare, toss them with lime zest and chili powder.
  • To keep it simple, just sprinkle them with sea salt and a little bit of black pepper.

Tips and Tricks

  • Use a mandolin to make prep go quicker and ensure uniform slices.
  • Slice them as thin as you can!
  • Make sure you use a nonstick baking sheet or liberally spray your sheet with nonstick spray.
