S’mores Trifles
S’mores trifles bring the campfire classic indoors with a playful yet elegant dessert. Layers of buttery graham crackers, creamy marshmallow topping, and chocolate all served in mason jars make these a treat everyone will love!
I know some people think of summer as campfire season, but here in the South just thinking about a campfire has me sweating.
No thanks.
I’ll skip those until fall thank you very much.
But just because I’m skipping the campfires until the nights get crisp doesn’t mean I’m skipping the s’mores treats.
These s’mores trifles are a delicious way to enjoy the classic graham cracker, marshmallow, chocolate combo no campfire needed.
Ingredients
To make these you’ll need:
- Graham crackers– Either pulse whole graham crackers in a food processor to make the crumbs or save yourself the step and buy a box of graham cracker crumbs.
- Butter– Melted
- Sugar– Granulated and powdered
- Cream cheese– Let it soften on the counter
- Lemon juice
- Vanilla– Real vanilla is best!
- Heavy cream– Don’t substitute a lower fat dairy here
- Marshmallow topping– The kind you would put on ice cream
- Chocolate frosting– Your favorite canned kind
- Marshmallow– Mini ones
- Hershey bar
You’ll also want 6 ounce mason jars and piping bags.
How to Make
S’mores trifles are pretty easy to make.
To do it, mix the graham cracker crumbs, melted butter, and granulated sugar together in a bowl until it’s the consistency of wet sand.
Fill each jar ¼ of the way full with graham cracker mixture, pressing it down with a spoon.
Set the jars aside.
In a stand mixer, beat the cream cheese until smooth.
Once the cream cheese is smooth, beat in the powdered sugar, lemon juice, vanilla, marshmallow topping, and heavy cream.
Mix everything on high until the mixture is smooth and stiff.
Scoop the mixture in a piping bag and pipe the marshmallow mixture into each jar, filling it half way.
Set the jars aside again.
Then scoop the chocolate frosting into a second piping bag and pipe it into each jar so they are all ¾ full.
Top each jar with mini marshmallows.
Then broil them for about 3 minutes, or until the marshmallows are slightly browned and melted.
Once the marshmallows have broiled to your liking, top each jar with a piece of a Hershey bar.
Let it melt slightly.
Serve immediately and enjoy!
Storing Leftovers
I don’t recommend storing leftovers of these s’mores jars.
The melted marshmallow topping will get sort of sad in the fridge.
Can I make these ahead of time?
Sort of.
You can put the jars together earlier in the day minus the marshmallow and candy bar topping.
When it’s time to serve them, top each jar with mini marshmallows and broil as instructed.
Then top with a piece of Hershey bar and enjoy!
Tips and Tricks
- Save yourself the hassle of crushing graham crackers and buy a box of graham cracker crumbs.
- You can buy chocolate frosting that’s prefilled into a piping bag in the baking section by the cake mixes.
- If you prefer, you could use homemade chocolate frosting though that does require extra work.
