We all love them and that goes times two during the cozy fall and winter months.
And there’s nothing quite like snuggling up on the couch with Harry Potter movie marathon and a Harry Potter themed snack like these pumpkin pasties or a slice of butterbeer pie to enjoy.
What are pumpkin pasties?
Pumpkin pasties are a treat from the Harry Potter books that is a take on Cornish pasties.
Cornish pastries are savory, handheld meat pies filled with beef and veggies.
In Harry Potter’s world, pumpkin pasties are sweet variation featuring pie crusts stuffed to the brim with sweetened pumpkin filling.
Ingredients
To make these you’ll need:
- Cream cheese– Softened to room temperature
- Sugar– Granulated
- Pumpkin puree– Make sure you are using pumpkin puree and not pumpkin pie filling
- Egg– Just one
- Spices– Cinnamon, nutmeg, and ground ginger
- Pie crusts– 2 9″ premade pie crusts
- Butter– Melted
How to Make
You don’t have to be a wizard to make these Harry Potter pumpkin pasties!
To do it, just preheat the oven to 350 F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Set it aside with you make the pasties.
Start by creaming together the cream cheese and granulated sugar in a medium bowl until smooth.
Then add the pumpkin, egg and spices and mix well.
Cut the pie dough into 10 4-5” circles with a cookie cutter or biscuit cutter.
Set each pie crust circle on the prepared baking sheet.
Put a dollop of pumpkin mixture to the center of each pie crust.
Fold the pie crust in half and use a fork to crimp the edges together.
Use a sharp knife to cut slits on the top of the pie.
Repeat until you have done this with all the pasties.
Brush them each with melted butter before baking them in the preheated oven for 25 minutes or until golden brown.
Serve and enjoy!
Storing Leftovers
Store leftover pumpkin pasties in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days.
Tips and Tricks
- Let the cream cheese sit out on the counter prior to making the filling so it is nice and soft for mixing.
- You could substitute 1.5 teaspoons of pumpkin spice for the individual seasonings.
- Don’t skip cutting slits into the pasties. They need the vent in order for the steam to escape.
