Gyro Nachos With Baked Pita Chips
Gyro nachos with baked pita chips are a Mediterranean twist on the Tex Mex appetizer. Crunchy pita chips get piled high with all the best gyro toppings for a fresh but satisfying appetizer or meal.
It’s a toss up what we enjoy more: Greek food or finger food like a big old plate of nachos.
Why pick one when you can put them together for a satisfying mash up of the two with a plate of gyro nachos with baked pita chips?
It has all the flavors of a gyro including the sliced gyro meat, feta cheese, fresh spring mix, rich olives and salty feta.
But!
Instead of folding the gyro toppings up into a pita, this time we are cutting the pita bread into triangles and baking it until it is crispy.
Then all those yummy toppings get piled onto the crunchy baked pita chips and eaten nacho style.
Ingredients
To make this you’ll need a set of ingredients for the pita chips and then another for the nacho toppings.
For the baked pita chips you’ll need:
- Pita bread– Cut each piece into quarters so it makes 4 triangles.
- Olive oil– Extra virgin
- Salt
For the nacho toppings you’ll need:
- Gyro meat– I highly recommend using the meat from my homemade gyros
- Spring mix– You could use shredded romaine if you prefer
- Tomatoes– Halved cherry tomatoes
- Feta– Crumbles
- Olives– Sliced black olives
How to Make
Making gyro nachos with baked pita chips is pretty easy!
To do it, start by cutting the pita bread into triangles and spreading them out in a single layer on a baing sheet.
Brush both sides of each triangle with olive oil and sprinkle them with salt.
Bake the pita chips at 375 for 8 to 10 minutes or until they are golden brown and crisp.
Then take them out of the oven and let them cool.
Once the pita chips have cooled, top them with the chopped meat, spring mix, tomatoes, feta, and olives.
Serve and enjoy!
Storing
I don’t recommend planning to make more than you can eat since the assembled nachos will get kind of soggy in the fridge.
Tips and Tricks
- Serve them with Tzatziki Sauce on the side for dipping or drizzled on top.
- This recipe is perfect for using up extra gyro meat!
- To keep it vegetarian, skip the meat and add hummus or chickpeas instead.
- You could really pile on the veggies and even add sliced red onions and diced cucumbers too.
