Is there anything better than an ice cold glass of lemonade on a hot day?

I can’t think of anything that beats the heat better.

And this creamy lemonade is absolutely delicious.

Of course it is, since it’s based on Brazilian lemonade.

With a tropical climate, Brazilians would be experts on cool, refreshing drinks and this one is spot on!

What is Brazilian lemonade?

Traditional Brazilian lemonade uses whole limes, yep limes in lemonade, and combines it with the condensed milk in a blender.

The mixture’s then strained and served over ice.

This version doesn’t use limes but is closer to the creamy lemonade that has been popping up all over the internet lately.

Ingredients

To make this, you’ll need:

  • Water– For the base of the drink.
  • Sweetened condensed milk– 1 can.
  • Lemon juice– I recommend fresh squeezed. 
  • Ice– So you can be sure it’s nice and cold.
  • Sliced lemons– Optional, for garnish.

How to Make

To make this, pour all the water into a large pitcher.

Then whisk in all of the condensed milk and lemon juice until everything is evenly combined.

Serve in glasses over ice, with a sliced lemon as garnish.

Will the lemon juice curdle the condensed milk?

No, the milk won’t curdle but the mixture will thicken as you mix it together.

Can I make this ahead of time?

I’d make this the day I plan to serve it.

Can I make creamy lemonade with limes instead?

Yes!

Just substitute out the lemon juice for lime juice and you are good to go.

Won’t the creamy lemonade be too tart without sugar?

No!

This recipe is pretty sweet thanks to the sweetened condensed milk.

Before you add any sugar, taste the finished lemonade and then add sugar as needed.

Tips and Tricks

  • While you can add the ice to the pitcher to chill the lemonade, I recommend serving it over ice instead. This prevents the melting ice from diluting the creamy lemonade in the pitcher, especially on warm days.
  • This is best made with freshly squeezed juice, although it’s not a must. I juiced 6 large lemons which gave me a generous cup of juice and I highly recommend using a citrus press or juicer.
  • You could make this with all lime juice or half lemon, half lime juice if you prefer.
