I love making homemade treats to gift to my family and friends this time of year.
Something about handmaking a gift for them really does feel like you are putting love into it in a more meaningful way than a store bought gift.
And doubly when it’s a gift they can eat since the way to the heart is through the stomach!
Well, this easy Christmas jam recipe is the perfect way to show your love.
It’s easy to make and so yummy to slather over your favorite baked goods.
Ingredients
To make this you’ll need:
- Strawberries– 40 ounces of frozen whole strawberries. No need to hull fresh ones for this.
- Cranberries– A full pound of fresh or frozen cranberries
- Sugar– A whole 5 pounds of granulated sugar.
- Fruit pectin– 2 3 ounce packages. You can buy this in the canning section or online here.
How to Make
Making this Christmas jam is quick and easy!
To do it, blend the fruit in a food processor fitted with the blade attachment until the fruit is smooth.
Once the fruit is smooth, put the fruit into a large, heavy bottomed pot.
Stir in the sugar and bring the mixture to a full rolling boil over medium to high heat.
Let it boil for 1 minute, stirring often.
Spoon the hot jam into sterile jars leaving 1/4″ space from the rim.
Wipe the rims of the jars clean, cover with hot lids, and screw them on tightly.
Process in a water bath for 10 minutes.
Let them cool and then store or give them as gifts!
Storing
Properly canned jam will keep for up to a year.
Christmas jam that’s not water bath canned but put into sterile jars hot and sealed should be good for up to two weeks in the refrigerator.
Tips and Tricks
- Yes you read that right! It is 5 full pounds of sugar.
- Some Christmas jams also add in orange zest and seasonal spices like cinnamon. You can do that if you’d like.
- Make canning easier with a canning kit.
Do I Have To Use All 5 Cups Of Sugar?
Yes, for the jam to turn out properly you must use all five pounds of sugar.
Not only is the sugar counter balancing the tartness of the fresh cranberries, lessening it will cause the jam to not set/gel properly.
