I love doing things to make my kids feel a bit extra special.
It was so much fun when my boys were elementary school aged and I could send them all sorts of cute surprises in their lunches.
I’m still tempted to sneak these back to school pencil treat bags into my youngest’s lunch even though he is well passed the point where he’d think it was cool.
He’d probably roll his eyes.
But still… sometimes I just can’t help myself!
Ingredients
You’ll need the following ingredients and surprise to make these cute back to school treat bags:
- Starbursts– The pink ones so they look a pencil eraser
- Chocolate Kisses– Wrapped in silver so they look like the metal on the pencil
- Goldfish crackers– Not the rainbow kind but the plain orange ones that look like the color of a pencil
- Marshmallows– Mini ones
- Chocolate Chips– Mini chips
- Treat Bags – 9.8″ by 5.1″ cone shaped treat bag
- Pink ribbon– The kind you can curl with scissors
How to Make
These back to school pencil treat bags are a really easy way to make your kiddo feel extra special on their first day!
To make them, add the chocolate chips to the treat bag.
Give the bag a good shake to make the chips settle into the tip a bit more.
Then put the marshmallows in the bag, followed by the Goldfish crackers.
Give the bag another good shake to make everything settle and fill in holes.
Add the chocolate kisses and finish by adding the pink Starbursts.
Gather the top of the treat bag up and tie it with pink curling ribbon in a double knot, not a bow.
Curl extra ribbon ends using scissors.
Enjoy!
Storing
Store the treat bags in a cool location on the counter for up to a week.
Try to keep them out of the heat so the chocolate doesn’t melt.
Tips and Tricks
- If you use bigger bags, you will need to use more of each ingredient to fill the bags up more or you will have an extra tufted end.
- You could trim the tufted end of the bag if you feel like there’s too much bag.
- It’s important for this project to use the exact ingredients listed so the bag looks as much like a pencil as possible.
- However, for the ribbon, if you don’t want to use pink curling ribbon you can find some very cute printed ribbon with a back to school theme (printed with ABCs or pencils).
