And now, a poem.
Twas the month before Christmas, when all through the house
All the creatures were stirring but I hope not a mouse;
The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,
In hopes that mom would fill them with more than new socks to wear;
I want to be nestled all snug in my bed
But visions of sugar-plums danishes dance in my head.
And mamma in her sweatpants had no time for a nap,
Because she wanted a Starbucks danish that slaps.
No? That’s not how it goes?
Weird.
But true. Those Starbucks sugar plum danishes get in my head.
They distract me from all the things.
So instead of stretching my already stretched holiday budget thin, I make my own version at home.
They only need 6 ingredients and taste exactly like the Starbucks fan favorite.
Plus they are perfect on Christmas morning or really anytime you want a little taste of holiday goodness.
Ingredients
To make these you’ll need:
- Puff Pastry– You can make your own puff pastry or use a 2 count of frozen puff pastry that you’ve thawed.
- Cream cheese– Softened to room temperature
- Powdered sugar– Leave extra for dusting
- Red plum jelly– Or jam. This can be hard to find. You can check Walmart where I found mine or buy it online here.
- Cinnamon
- Egg
How to Make
Making copycat Starbucks sugar plum danishes is easy!
Just preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
While the oven heats, slice each puff pastry sheet into 4 squares.
You will have 2 pieces leftover.
Then put each puff pastry square into each spot in a jumbo muffin tin.
Set the muffin tin aside while you make the filling.
To do it, whip together the cream cheese and powdered sugar in a mixing bowl with an electric mixer.
Stir the cinnamon into the plum jelly.
Then spoon an equal amount of the cream cheese mixture into each puff pastry.
Top that with an equal amount of sugar plum jelly in each pastry.
Beat the egg with 1 tablespoon of water and brush onto the puff pastry.
Bake the danishes for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.
Dust with more powdered sugar and serve!
Enjoy!
Storing
Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 days.
Tips and Tricks
- Make sure you let the cream cheese come up to room temperature first so it’s easier to whip.
- You can add a teaspoon of vanilla to the cream cheese mixture for more flavor.
- These are delicious with powdered sugar dusted on top or you can be extra and make a glaze to drizzle on the top by mixing milk, powdered sugar, and vanilla together until it has a consistency similar to warm cream cheese frosting. Then drizzle that on top.
