Leftover Brisket Tacos

Leftover brisket tacos turn the smoked beef into a delicious second day meal that you might even like better than the original meal! Shredded brisket gets sauteed and served in heated tortillas with your favorite toppings. Easy, quick, and nothing goes to waste!

Y’all know I put my smoker to good use, right?

One of our very favorite things to make is smoked brisket.

It’s incredibly tender, rich, smokey, and just *chef’s kiss* perfection.

But brisket is a bit of a budget stretch most of the time.

So you know I don’t want any of it to go to waste.

That would be a crying shame.

Instead I make things like smoked brisket chili, baked beans with brisket, and now these leftover smoked brisket tacos to make sure no piece of brisket gets left behind.

Honestly, brisket tacos are so delicious and easy you might find yourself serving the meat like this right on day one!

And as a round 2 leftover meal, it’s super fast and can be on your table in just a matter of minutes so you can eat well on even the busiest of nights.

Ingredients

To make these you’ll need:

  • Smoked brisket– Leftover smoked brisket. Shred it up.
  • Oil– Canola oil or another light oil to fry the brisket and reheat it.
  • Tortillas– I recommend corn tortillas but you could use flour if you prefer
  • Toppings– Any of your favorite taco and/or brisket toppings

How to Make

Leftover smoked brisket tacos are so easy!

Just heat the oil in a large skillet over medium high heat.

When the oil is hot and shimmery, add the brisket pieces and saute them, stirring often, until the brisket is heated through.

Take the skillet off the heat and set it aside.

Then wrap the stack of tortillas in damp paper towels and microwave for 15-30 seconds or just until the tortillas are warm and soft.

Divide the brisket into the tortillas and serve warm with your favorite toppings.

Enjoy!

Toppings for Brisket Tacos

With brisket tacos, you have choices.

You could either lean into the taco-ness of them and top them with traditional taco toppings like:

  • pico de gallo
  • salsa
  • cilantro
  • avocado slices
  • guacamole
  • pickled onions
  • jalapenos
  • shredded cheese
  • sour cream
  • shredded lettuce

You could also really play up the barbecue style of the brisket with some more barbecue inspired toppings like:

  • barbecue sauce
  • crispy french fried onions
  • coleslaw
  • corn salad
  • a drizzle of ranch
  • baked beans

And of course you could pick and choice your toppings from both categories!

Storing Leftovers

I don’t recommend storing leftover assembled brisket taco.

Store any leftover brisket taco meat separately from the tortillas and toppings in an airtight container in the fridge.

The amount of time you can store the leftover brisket taco meat is based on when you initially cooked the brisket.

You shouldn’t keep meat that’s older than 4 days after it’s initial cooking.

Tips and Tricks

  • Do not, and I cannot stress this enough, microwave the brisket meat for the tacos. It will turn rubbery and not crispy and delicious the way it would if you pan fry it as directed.
  • You want the pan pretty hot so the edges of the meat get crisp.
  • This recipe easily scales up or down if you are feeding more people or are only feeding yourself.
