My hubs and I love going out for Italian food on our date nights.
One of us almost always orders some kind of fettucine Alfredo because it is just so dang good!
And now we can enjoy the flavors of our favorite date night dinner at home on the busiest weeknight thanks to the handy dandy Instant Pot.
It makes an already easy to make meal, even easier.
How?
This becomes a one pot meal with a super short prep and cook time and an effortless cleanup.
Even better? While it’s our favorite date night food, this meal pleases even the pickiest of eaters with its deliciously creamy noodles for a meal that will be met with yums each time you serve it!
Ingredients
To make this pasta recipe you’ll need:
- Pasta– Linguine or fettucine work best. Don’t substitute spaghetti.
- Alfredo sauce– Use your favorite brand of jarred sauce.
- Chicken broth– Chicken broth acts as the cooking liquid for this and adds extra flavor. To keep it vegetarian, you could sub vegetable broth or water.
- Seasoning– Garlic powder, seasoned salt, and salt and pepper are all you need.
- Heavy cream– To stir in after the pasta cooks so you can achieve just the right consistency.
How to Make
This is one of my go to’s on my busiest days for good reason! Prep takes less than 5 minutes tops.
To make this, start by adding 2 cups of chicken broth and the alfredo sauce to the liner of your pot.
Then, pour the remaining 1 cup of broth into the empty alfredo jar, put the lid on and shake. Pour this mixture into the pot, whisking everything together to combine.
Next, add the broken pasta in increments. Fan them out and alternate directions so the pasta is in a crisscross type of pattern, to prevent clumping during the cooking process.
Add the seasonings to the pot, but DO NOT stir.
Now, secure the lid on the pot and set the vent valve to the sealed position. Pressure cook cook on high for 7 minutes.
When the pot beeps, open the sealing valve to perform a quick release, avoiding the hot escaping steam when the vent valve is turned. Once the pressure has released, open the lid and set it aside.
Then, use a pasta fork to stir the pasta and sauce together to combine and release any stuck together bits.
The alfredo pasta will seem liquidy at first, and that’s ok. Let the pasta rest for 2-3 minutes while the sauce thickens and the pasta absorbs the excess moisture.
At this point, stir in the cream, to the desired consistency and season the pasta with salt and pepper, to taste.
Serve the pasta warm with freshly grated parmesan and enjoy!
Variations
This pasta is delicious as is, but you can definitely use this as a base recipe and stir in:
- shredded rotisserie chicken for easy chicken alfredo
- cooked shrimp
- steamed broccoli
- sun dried tomatoes (drained of oil)
- sautéed mushrooms
- baby spinach
- a dollop of pesto sauce
The sky’s the limit!
Storing Leftovers
Store leftover in an air tight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat in the microwave, adding more cream after it’s warm if you need to thin the sauce a little.
Tips and Tricks
- Instant Pot pasta recipes can release starchy water when performing a quick release. To prevent this from leaving a sticky coating on your counters, cover the vent valve loosely with a thin layer of paper towels before opening to release the pressure.
- Would you prefer using small shaped pasta- like farfalle, shells, penne, or elbow? That’s ok! Use as instructed, but you’ll need to adjust the cook time to just 4-5 minutes.
- Use your favorite jarred sauce, as this is the flavor that will be most pronounced.

Thank you for sharing! I tried this recipe today and it was good. I used unsalted/no-salt-added broth. When I added the cream, I also stirred in mushroom pieces (1 small can, drained, no-salt-added variety).
