Cookie butter is one of those things that tends to disappear fast once you have it in the house.

Making it at home is surprisingly quick and easy.

And homemade cookie butter has that same rich flavor and smooth texture you know and love from Biscoff sprea or Speculoos butter.

You can spread it on toast, swirl it into desserts, use it as a dip for fruit and cookies, or just go ahead and eat it by the spoonful.

Ingredients

To make this you’ll need:

  • Cookies– Specifically Biscoff cookies. Sometimes you may hear these called “airplane cookies” since they are often served during snacks.
  • Milk– Whatever kind you drink
  • Sugar– Powdered
  • Vanilla extract– Real is best
  • Spices– Salt and cinnamon

How to Make

Homemade cookie butter couldn’t be any easier to make!

Just pop all the ingredients into a food processor fitted with the blade attachment.

Pulse it together until it reaches a consistency similar to smooth peanut, adding a little more milk if the mixture is too thick.

Use and enjoy!

Serving Suggestions

Like Biscoff spread, this homemade cookie butter is delicious as a dip or topping for:

  • fresh fruit
  • toast
  • pretzel sticks
  • oatmeal
  • pancakes or waffles
  • French toast

You can also use it as a cookie filling, an icing for baked goods, or even stir it into your coffee!

Storing

Store this in an airtight container or jar in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.

Let the cookie butter spread come to room temperature before using.

You can also freeze it in a freezer safe container for up to 3 months.

Tips and Tricks

  • As written the recipe should yield roughly 1 whole cup of cookie butter. You can double the recipe if desired.
  • You can use other kinds of cookies instead of Biscoff for the butter but Biscoff is traditional.
  • Start with a scant quarter cup of milk and only add a little more at a time to reach the desired consistency rather than adding a lot more all at once. It’s easier to thin this out than thicken it.
