Ground Beef Philly Cheesesteaks
Ground beef Philly cheesesteaks are a quick twist on the classic Pennsylvanian sandwich loaded with the same savory flavor and melty cheese. This budget friendly version has all the flavors you know and love and will easily feed a hungry crowd.

Everyone loves a good Philly cheesesteak.
If you aren’t near Philly, a good one can be hard to come by.
We aren’t near Philly unfortunately so I like making them at home.
The traditional version uses thinly sliced rib eye steak and those can be pretty pricy if they aren’t on sale.
This ground beef version keeps things simple and more affordable.

Using ground beef keeps prep quick while still delivering that classic flavor.
And like traditional Philly cheesesteaks, these ground beef Philly cheesesteaks also have the same sliced onions, peppers, and melty Provolone cheese.
It’s goodness on a toasted roll that your whole family will love!

Ingredients
To make these, you’ll need:
- Ground beef– Use leaner ground beef. You want to use 90/10 or leaner.
- Spices– Salt, black pepper, and garlic powder
- Butter
- Vegetables– Thinly sliced yellow onion and a thinly sliced green bell pepper
- Cream cheese– Softened to room temperature and cut into cubes
- Buns– Hamburger buns or steak sandwich rolls
- Cheese– Sliced provolone. You can sub American, mozzarella, or skip sliced cheese and use Cheez Wiz instead.

How to Make
Ground beef Philly cheesesteaks are so easy to make!
To do it, cook the beef in a large skillet over medium high heat, crumbling it as it cooks.
Season with salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
Once the beef is crumbled, push the beef to edges of the pan and melt the butter in the center of the skillet.
When the butter has melted, stir the onions and peppers into the melted butter to coat them.
Let everything keep cooking until the veggies have softened and the beef has brown through, stirring everything often.

Turn the heat down to medium low and stir in the cream cheese to combine.
Keep cooking the mixture, stirring often, until the cream cheese has melted and evenly combined with the meat and vegetables.
Take the skillet off the heat.
Then add about 1/2 cup of beef mixture to each bun, top each with a slice of cheese, and serve immediately.
Enjoy!

Storing Leftovers
I don’t recommend storing the sandwiches after they are assembled as they will get soggy.
However, you can store the leftover beef mixture in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days.

Tips and Tricks
- While totally optional, I recommend toasting the buns prior to assembling the sandwiches since it will keep them from getting soggy.
- You can dice the veggies, instead of thinly slicing them, if preferred.
- While you can use fattier ground beef, I’d highly recommend draining it before you add the cream cheese. If you do use fattier meat, you’ll get less meat out of it in general.
