My boys love almonds and let me tell you these candied almonds are one of their absolute favorite treats.
I can’t blame them.
They smell (and taste!) ah-mazing!
My house smelled like fall the entire day after making these.
I just couldn’t resist the temptation to sample a few while they were still cooling and let me tell you, they were de-lish when still warm!
You can eat them out of a bag for a quick snack or sprinkle a few over a scoop of vanilla ice cream for a truly delicious dessert.
Plus, they are perfect to jar up and give as gifts at the holidays or even serve on a cookie tray.
And they couldn’t be easier to make!
Ingredients
To make these, you’ll need:
- Sugar– Both granulated and brown sugar
- Cinnamon– Ground not sticks
- Salt– To balance the sweetness
- Egg– To help the coating stick
- Vanilla– Real vanilla extract and not imitation
- Almonds– Whole almonds not slivered, etc.
- Water
How to Make
These cinnamon sugar almonds are so easy to make!
To do it, whisk the egg and vanilla together in a medium to large bowl until the egg mixture begins to get a little frothy.
Then, stir in the almonds until they are all coated in the mixture.
In a separate bowl, mix together the sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt.
Add the coated almonds to the cinnamon mixture and toss until the sugar completely coats the almond.
Then, spray your crock pot with non stick cooking spray.
Cook the almonds on high for two hours stirring every 20 minutes.
After 2 hours pour the water over the almonds and mix very well to make sure there are no clumps.
Reduce heat to low and cook for one more hour, still stirring every 20 minutes.
Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper and evenly spread out the almonds to cool and dry on the paper.
Can I use another nut besides almonds to make cinnamon sugar nuts?
Yes!
You can follow the same recipe with walnuts or pecans as well.
How to Store Cinnamon Sugar Almonds
Store them in an airtight container on the counter for up to two weeks.
Tips and Tricks
- You absolutely cannot skip stirring! Stirring keeps them from clumping and prevents the sugar from burning.
- Want to play with the flavors a bit? Use pumpkin spice for a fall take on these. Or even add a little chili powder for the sweet and spicy vibe.
- You might have to break up the candy a bit after it dries and that’s ok.
