Cheesy Beer Bread
Cheesy beer bread is a flavor packed, easy to make no yeast bread. You’ll love serving this on the side of a hearty bowl of stew or soup for the ultimate in cozy enjoyment.
Is there anything better than freshly baked bread?
The answer, my friends, is yes indeed there is.
And that is freshly baked bread loaded with cheddar cheese and beer.
It’s so good and seriously easy to make since you don’t need to deal with yeast to make this.
It only needs a few basic ingredients and packs mind blowing flavor.
What is beer bread?
Beer bread is any bread that has beer in the dough.
It can use any type of beer and some versions may include yeast.
Our version is a savory quick bread that doesn’t need any yeast other than the yeast from the beer.
Ingredients
To make this you’ll need:
- Flour– All purpose flour works best.
- Baking powder– This provides extra leavening.
- Sugar– Use granulated sugar.
- Salt
- Cheese– I love this with sharp cheddar instead of mild cheddar to help the flavor of the cheese really shine through.
- Beer– Use any kind of canned beer you like. Be aware that darker beers like stouts will have a stronger flavor than lighter beers.
- Butter– Melted.
How to Make
This is so easy to make!
To do it, whisk the flour, baking powder, sugar and salt together in a large mixing bowl.
Once they are whisked together, stir in the cheese.
Then, slowly pour in the beer and just stir until mixed together, taking care not to over mix the batter.
It’s supposed to be a bit lumpy.
Now scrape the batter from from the bowl with a spatula into a sprayed 9×5 loaf pan.
Use the spatula to evenly spread it out.
Next, drizzle the melted butter evenly over the batter.
Bake the bread at 375 for 35 to 40 minutes or until it’s cooked through.
Once it’s cooked through, remove the bread from the oven and let it cool for 10 minutes prior to removing from the pan and transferring it to a wire rack to finish cooling.
When you’re ready to serve, slice it with a serrated knife and serve warm.
Storing
Store this sealed in an airtight container or bag on your countertop for up to 3 days.
If you are looking for a way to store it longer, you can make the batter ahead of time and store it in a freezer bag in the freezer for up to two months.
Then just thaw it in the fridge and bake as instructed.
Serving Suggestions
We love this bread as a snack with a pat of butter and a drizzle of honey.
It’s also fantastic as a side dish with a hearty stew, soup or casserole.
Tips and Tricks
- If alcohol’s a concern, sub a non-alcoholic beer.
- Add herbs if you want to make this extra flavor filled. Rosemary, thyme or even crushed garlic would all make a tasty choice
- If you don’t have the cheese on hand, you can omit the cheese and just make beer bread if preferred
