I love making homemade gifts to give to people on my holiday list.

It just adds a personal touch that feels extra special.

However, time is definitely at a premium over the holiday season and it can feel impossible to make a bunch of homemade gifts.

But it’s easy and cost effective to make a bunch of these hot chocolate filled ornaments at one time.

And they are lovely to gift to anyone as a stand alone present, as part of a larger gift or even as part of a hot cocoa themed gift basket.

Ingredients and Materials

To make the filling you’ll need:

  • Hot cocoa mix– one packet of your favorite mix
  • Marshmallows– go for mini marshmallows so they will fit in the ornament nicely
  • Chocolate chips- white chocolate chips look the prettiest, but you could use any kind
  • Sprinkles– any color but I do love the festive pop red adds

You’ll also need some nonedible materials including:

  • A clear plastic ornament– you can find these at the craft store for under a dollar
  • Funnel– it will make filling your ornament so much easier!
  • Ribbon– any color or style
  • a straw– cut in half

How to Make

These ornaments are so easy to put together!

To do it, start by removing the top of the ornament and placing the funnel into the opening.

Pour the hot cocoa mix from the packet into the ornament and give it a shake to even it out.

Then add the red sprinkles until it is approximately another third of the way full.

Now fill the remainder of the ornament with either mini marshmallows or white chocolate chips.

Finish by securing the top back on the ornament and adding the ribbon and straw to the top as shown.

Give them as gifts and enjoy!

Making a Hot Cocoa Gift Basket

These hot cocoa ornaments would make a lovely addition to a hot cocoa gift basket.

I’d also add some wrapped hot cocoa bombs, homemade hot cocoa mix, and maybe some homemade cookies or candies.

It’d be the coziest gift to give!

Tips and tricks

  • You can often find a few different shapes of the clear plastic ornaments. Mix up the shapes for variety but make sure you use a standard size or larger ornament instead of going smaller.
  • Have fun with the varieties of hot cocoa. There are so many that you could add different flavors to each ornament.
  • Play with the fillings. Crushed candy canes, mini chocolate chips or different colors of sprinkles would all be pretty and tasty.

Party Favors

Hosting parties and get togethers is almost always a given for my during the holidays.

While it’s not expected, it’s always a nice touch when there’s a little party favor guests can take to go on their way out.

I love having a little table top tree on my dessert table, decorated with these festive filled ornaments.

A little sign is all that’s needed to let guests know they can grab one, and take it to enjoy at home.
