And let me tell you I don’t think I have ever been as excited over anything as much as I have been for these homemade Dot Cakes.

What are Dot Cakes?
Dot Cakes are everywhere right now!
The original dessert comes from a bakery called Dotcakes on Long Island that is enjoying newfound, viral fame.
The bakery coats the exterior of all their cakes in the round sprinkles called nonpareils so thickly you can’t see the frosting underneath.
While a full sized Dot Cake would be awesome for a birthday party, the true star are Dotcups, the individual serving sized sprinkle coated cakes.
This homemade Dot Cakes recipe is based on those single serve cakes.
Ingredients
To make these you’ll need:

- Butter– Softened to room temperature.
- Sugar– Granulated.
- Vanilla– Use clear vanilla extract for a pretty white cake but regular vanilla works too.
- Egg whites– Discard the yolks.
- Flour– All purpose.
- Baking powder– For leavening.
- Milk– Whole will give you the most tender results.
- Frosting– White premade frosting though you can use homemade buttercream.
- Sprinkles– Specifically rainbow nonpareils
How to Make
These homemade Dot Cares are pretty easy to make!
Just start by creaming together the butter and sugar together until they are smoothly combined.

Beat in the vanilla extract and set the bowl aside.
In a separate bowl, beat the egg whites on high until stiff peaks form.

Set the egg whites aside.
In another separate bowl, whisk together the flour and baking powder.

Add the fluffy egg whites to the creamed butter and sugar mixture and mix it until well combined.
Then mix in the flour mixture and milk with a hand mixture until the batter is smooth.

Pour the batter into a well greased 9×13 baking pan and bake the cake at 350 degrees for 20 minutes.
Let it cool completely.

Once the cake is cool, take 3 cups and press them into the baked cake upside down so you are filling each cup with cake.
Spread an even, smooth layer of icing over the top of each cake.

Press your cup, icing side down, into the sprinkles so the top is completely coated.
Serve and enjoy!

Storing Leftovers
These cakes are meant to be enjoyed in one sitting, but if you have leftovers store them covered in the fridge for up to 5 days.

Tips and Tricks
- Do not to overbake the cake and dry it out. The cake is done as soon as a toothpick inserted in the middle comes out clean.
- You may need to do it twice if your cups are deep.
- Be careful not to get frosting on the sides of the cups. That will be messy.
- You could shortcut this and use a box of your favorite cake mix.
