Southern food is comfort food to the max.

And it’s most obvious with dishes like hushpuppies.

Little deep fried golden brown cornmeal biscuit of goodness.

Super comforting, super delicious, and normally super deep fried.

But with the air fryer you can enjoy a lighter version of the classic side.

All the same great flavor, but less oil.

What are hushpuppies?

Hushpuppies are small round cornmeal biscuits.

These savory cornmeal fritters are generally deep fried in oil and served as a side for seafood dishes.

Our version uses the same batter a traditional hushpuppy would use but is air fried instead.

Storing Leftovers

Hushpuppies are best enjoyed fresh, but if you have leftovers store them in a ziplocking bag or airtight container in the fridge for up to a couple days.

Reheat them in the air fryer to crisp them back up.

Tips and Tricks

  • Don’t over mix the batter. You want all the ingredients just combined. Overmixing will lead to really dense hushpuppies.
  • You can adjust the spices to suit your tastes.
  • Buttermilk is a must for this! You need the acid to make the hushpuppies tender.
