When my kids were little, they were super picky.
We’re talking they’d basically only eat some form of breaded chicken.
Chicken nuggets, chicken fingers, chicken patties.
You get the idea.
Well, even now that they are a little older, we still eat a ton of breaded chicken in this house.
In an effort to lighten things up a bit, I love to make it in the air fryer instead of deep frying it.
And these air fryer chicken cutlets are a recipe that is on repeat in our house!
It’s so easy, versatile, and everyone loves it.
Ingredients
To make these you’ll need:
- Chicken breast cutlets– Look for ones that are a fairly uniform thickness. Trim away any excess fat.
- Bread crumbs– Unseasoned panko bread crumbs.
- Flour– To dredge the chicken in
- Egg– To get the flour and bread crumbs to stick
- Spices– Garlic powder, black pepper, and salt.
How to Make
Air fryer chicken cutlets are so easy to make!
Start by setting up a breading station- adding the flour and bread crumbs to separate plates and cracking the egg into a bowl.
Season the egg with garlic powder, salt, and pepper and whisk it until smooth.
Pat the chicken dry using paper towel then dredge one piece in the flour, turning to coat completely.
Shake off any excess flour and then add the floured chicken to beaten egg, turning to coat it.
Let the excess egg drip off and then transfer it to the bread crumbs, turning the chicken and pressing them in if needed.
Transfer to a waiting plate, and repeat until all the chicken’s coated.
Generously spray the basket of an air fryer with nonstick spray.
Add two breaded cutlets to the basket of the fryer.
Spray the tops of the chicken with cooking spray.
Air fry at 390° for 10 minutes, flipping them half way through.
Transfer to plates, and repeat for the second batch.
Serve and enjoy!
Storing Leftovers
Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 to 5 days though these are best fresh.
For best results, reheat the chicken in the air fryer until warmed through.
Freezing
Freeze air fryer chicken cutlets for up to a month by letting the cooked cutlets cool and putting them into a ziplocking freezer bag.
To reheat them, let them thaw and then air fry the cutlets again to crisp up.
Tips and Tricks
- Cook time may vary based on the thickness of your chicken, so always cook to temp rather than just time.
- DO NOT over cook. Cutlets are thin so they cook quickly, and you don’t want it to dry out.
- Want to add some flavor to your chicken? Whisk your favorite seasonings into the bread crumbs before coating the chicken.
