Spread 1/2 a tablespoon of butter (or mayo) on two slices of bread.
Heat a skillet over medium/low heat and add the buttered bread slices to the skillet, buttered side down.
Layer 3-4 slices of cheese on top of each slice of bread, then top each with another slice of bread.
Continue cooking until golden brown, then flip and continue cooking on the other side until golden brown and the cheese has melted.
Plate the crispy grilled cheese, then slice and serve!
- Lower heat is best for the perfect grilled cheese. You can obviously correct an undercooked one, but you can't really fix a burnt version.
- If making more than two sandwiches, cook in batches and repeat as many times as necessary.
- Each grilled cheese sandwich shouldn't take more than six minutes to cook
- Do NOT use American cheese.
