Ingredients

  • 3 lbs apples washed, peeled, cored, and sliced (roughly 9 cups)
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup red hot candies (aka cinnamon imperials)

Instructions

  • Add the water and sugar to a large skillet set over medium heat. Whisk often, stirring until the sugar's dissolved.
1 cup water, 1 cup granulated sugar
  • Add the apples and candy, stirring to combine.
3 lbs apples, 1/2 cup red hot candies
  • Bring the mixture to a boil, then immediately reduce the heat to medium low. Simmer, stirring often, just until the apples have reached your desired level of tenderness.
  • Remove the skillet from heat, and let the apples cool.
  • Serve warm & enjoy!

Notes

  • The apples don't have to be sliced, they can be cut into rings, chunks, etc.
  • If you do want to slice the apples, I recommend using an apple slicer to core and slice the apples first. Then cut each slice in half.
  • Don't worry if the apples don't appear very red at first. They will turn redder the longer it cools.
  • You can serve these warm or chilled.
