Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 lbs lean ground beef
  • 1 small white onion finely diced
  • salt & pepper to taste
  • 2 tsp minced garlic
  • 3/4 cup ketchup
  • 1/3 cup dill pickle relish
  • 2 tbsp yellow mustard
  • 1 1/2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp brown sugar
  • 6 fluffy hamburger buns
  • 6 slices American cheese

Instructions

  • Add the beef and onion to a large skillet set over medium high heat. Season with salt & pepper, to taste. Cook, breaking up the beef and stirring, until all the beef's browned throughout. Strain off the excess grease.
  • Return the skillet to heat, add the garlic to the beef, and stir to combine. Cook for 1-2 minutes.
  • Add the remaining ingredients to the skillet, and stir to evenly combine. Reduce the heat to medium low and allow the mixture to simmer for 5-10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Open buns and add a slice of cheese to each bottom bun. Divide the sloppy joe filling evenly out between all the sandwiches. Add the top buns to close.
  • Serve & enjoy!

Notes

  • If you are using fattier ground beef, use 2 pounds instead of just a pound and a half.
  • You can sub ground turkey for the ground beef to shave off some fat and calories.
  • For sturdier buns (and less sloppy, sloppy joes)- toast the buns before adding the cheese and meat mixture.
  • To get more of the traditional cheeseburger experience you can add toppings like lettuce, sliced tomato, pickles and anything else you like on your burgers.
