Ingredients

  • 3 1/2 - 4 cups washed, hulled, & diced strawberries
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice fresh preferred, but not required
  • 1/4 tsp vanilla extract optional

Instructions

  • Add all of the ingredients to a large, flat skillet. Stir them together to evenly combine.
  • Bring the mixture to a boil over high heat, then immediately reduce the heat to low- whisking the mixture well- this will prevent burning.
  • Allow the mixture to simmer for 15 minutes, or until the volume is reduced by half.
  • Remove the skillet from heat, and allow the sauce to rest. It will continue to thicken as it cools.
  • Serve or store, and enjoy!

Notes

  • Prefer a thicker or thinner sauce? Cut the berries larger or smaller depending on your preference.
  • This recipe makes roughly 1 pint (2 cups) of sauce, but can easily be doubled or tripled.
  • Don't have enough strawberries or they're out of season? You can sub raspberries or blackberries, or add in a combination.
